JACK PHELAN CHEVY IN LYONS, IL – DECEPTIVE SERVICE PRACTICES On June 3rd, 2019 my wife dropped off our Chevy Traverse and explained to the service department manager, Jason, the issue with our vehicle that we pu On June 3rd, 2019 my wife dropped off our Chevy Traverse and explained to the service department manager, Jason, the issue with our vehicle that we purchased at this location in late 2014. It was conveyed to him that our AC was blowing only cool air on the driver’s side, and warm air on the passenger side and rear of the car. He stated that they would be able to look at the vehicle the next day and would advise their findings. We received a call on June 4th from Cody in the service department at 2:00 pm. He told my wife that they had found no leaks in the system, but had found contaminated Freon. She asked him if he had ever heard of this issue before and he replied no, he had not. Due to this supposed problem, Cody (per Jason) stated that they would need a special tool to remove the Freon which would take 2 to 3 weeks to find, and she was told to bring the car back to be repaired when they found this so-called tool. My wife was also told she could leave the vehicle there, or pick it up that day and pay the $159.88 diagnostic fee which would then be applied to the repair. She opted to pick up the vehicle, paid the fee, and was told they would call her when they had the tool. My wife waited the full the 3 weeks and never heard back from anyone. She called the service department on June 25th at 10:45 am and spoke with Cody, who said “Oh, I was just thinking about calling you.” My wife asked if they had the special tool yet and he said no, they did not. She asked how much longer is this going to take, as the weather is getting very hot. Cody said, “Hang on, I’ll go ask Jason (the manager) he’s the man on the case.” Jason got on the phone with my wife and said, “Hopefully we’ll have it in another week or two.” Now, I was taken aback about this whole explanation, as I have never heard of such nonsense. I decided to ask a professional mechanic who has been in the industry for well over 35 years. He asked if this was a joke. He laughed when I mentioned the contaminated Freon, and said that was a complete lie, I should get my money back and take the car elsewhere. This was really upsetting, and in the meantime the weather just kept getting hotter with the situation still not resolved. We became somewhat desperate, and decided to try another Chevy dealer in the area. We spoke with their service manager on June 28th, and he stated it was most likely a leak and they could fix the problem. We made an appointment for Wed, July 3rd. I dropped it off at 7 am, and they called me at 10am, told me the vehicle had a compressor leak, and advised what parts needed to be replaced. They said they would probably have it fixed that day, or by Friday at latest. They had it fixed the same day, and nothing was ever mentioned about contaminated Freon or needing a special tool to fix it. I find it interesting that this dealership was able to find/repair a leak that Phelan Chevy said did not exist!! On that same day, I received a call from a Jack Phelan representative asking to buy back our vehicle, which I thought was an ironic twist since they wouldn’t even call us back to fix the car. I told the person to get the service manager on the phone, as I was furious over this whole situation. I proceeded to give Jason an ear full, and told him why did he lie to us and tell my wife this ridiculous story about the Freon. He continued to try telling me there was truth in this, and I told him I want our money back as it was supposed to go towards a repair which was never done by Jack Phelan in Lyons, IL. He said he would talk this over with his manager and get back to me in one week. He never called, so we finally decided to go to the dealership and speak with Jason personally on July 17th. I told him again I was furious and wanted our money back for services that were not rendered. He tried at first to tell me the same excuse, and I told him stop lying and do the right thing. My wife told him that she has a health condition and can’t take the extreme heat (it was in the 90’s by this point). She also said we have been more than patient, and all he could offer in explanation was “I get it, but we still don’t have this tool” (seven weeks later). His attitude towards us was extremely curt, defensive and dismissive!! He highlighted our paperwork, said he would try to get our money back, and promised to call the very next day. I texted Jack Phelan on July 18th at 7:51 am to remind Jason to call me. I have a reply text stating he would be notified and call me back, which he never did (no surprise there). I texted again at 3:23 pm, and was told again they would remind Jason. I said he had his chance, and I would like to speak with the owner as I was beyond upset at this point. The reply came back saying “I certainly understand and submitting a request for our team to address this and will note it has been over a month”. Needless to say, it is now one week later and nobody has bothered to call or even check regarding this situation. Phelan Chevrolet has displayed outright carelessness and thoughtlessness in their attempts at service, and a blatant disrespect for us as customers. I wonder how many others they have treated in this manner? Would never go there again for ANY reason, and would advise others reading this, unless you enjoy paying good money for nothing, to think twice before ever dealing with Jack Phelan Chevrolet in Lyons, IL!! I am now pursuing this matter with the Illinois States attorney and the Better Business Bureau. More
No communication and extremely UNPROFESSIONAL!! Service department never communicates with the customer. We have to keep calling them for an update. Reoccurring issue dealer does not fix. One of them even made a porter get him ice coffee from Dunkin’ Who does he think he is. unfortunately I need to return because this dealer fails to close tickets and another dealer won’t work on my vehicle. I guess this is how they get the customer to come back. More

Jack Phelan's location Jack Phelan is close by and they pick me up & drop me off at home. They are usually pretty fast with their service. However, when Mike Costello is n Jack Phelan is close by and they pick me up & drop me off at home. They are usually pretty fast with their service. However, when Mike Costello is not there, I'm not feeling as comfortable with the men who are doing the servicing. I feel that Mike knows our vehicle better than the other service men and feel that he is doing the best for our Tahoe. This last service was quite expensive and we are on a fixed income. I feel that Mike would direct me in the right direction, as far as our Tahoe goes. We've been bringing in our Tahoe to Jack Phelan since we bought it for regular oil changes and maintenance. More
