We went to Jack Daniels Kia in Fair Lawn after I saw the car I wanted listed online for msrp. We called to make sure it was available and it was. We test drove it, all was well, sat down to talk numbers and car I wanted listed online for msrp. We called to make sure it was available and it was. We test drove it, all was well, sat down to talk numbers and we were presented with an amount astronomically more than expected. MSRP + $8000 upcharge + taxes + fees. When we asked about the $8000 we were told it's because of the car shortage so that's normal now. We were ready to walk and then they came back with cutting that $8000 upcharge basically in half. Still more than expected and we felt that they should have been clear upfront, including in their online pricing. Salesman told us the car we were looking at there was the "only one in new jersey." Not even 15 minutes after leaving that dealership I located 3 more of the exact same car. Still in New Jersey and at dealerships charging msrp, one of which we ended up purchasing from. Other dealerships I reached out to were upcharging $2000-$3000 which is a little easier to stomach than $8000! Overall, it felt very shady. More
