Since 1952, J.H. Barkau & Sons has served the Northern Illinois, Southern Wisconsin stateline area for their automotive needs. We can proudly boast to over 70,000 customers in those years and have had thousands of customers purchase multiple vehicles and generations of families that have allowed us to serve them.
When John H. Barkau founded the business, his goal was to bring quality, affordable transportation to the local area. Jim (2nd generation), Rick (3rd generation), and Willie (3rd generation) Barkau have continued in that tradition while expanding our marketplace to be worldwide. We have had vehicles shipped to Russia, Sweden, Australia, Turkey, Mexico and many other locations. We have vehicles purchased by customers in 49 states and commonly have customers fly in to pick up their new vehicles. In all of this, it has been a pleasure for the Barkau family to help fulfill the transportation needs of a varied clientele.
J.H. Barkau & Sons has accomplished this feat by continuing to offer quality, hand-picked vehicles at very competitive prices. We believe in offering our customers an incredible selection that is second to none, with over 1100 vehicles available for purchase. We believe in a no pressure sales environment and in quality reconditioning of our inventory selection. Our sales teams at our Cedarville and Freeport stores each have over a century of experience in helping fill the needs of our vast customer base. The funny part is, we remember a lot of you years later and we are genuinely happy to see you.
But selling cars is not all that we do. We believe in supporting the local community through donations, Toy Drives, Food Drives and many other local charities and fundraisers. We also run the “Excellerate” program for Aquin Catholic Schools and have facilitated over 113 donated vehicles. I think the service dept should do a better job going over the car before putting on the lot. I’m sure if they drove the car they would have discovered the noise in the front end. After getting home I ch over the car before putting on the lot. I’m sure if they drove the car they would have discovered the noise in the front end. After getting home I checked the spare tire for air. Read 20lbs. Tire is supposed to have 60lbs. Very disappointing also that you didn’t have an extra key, even if you didn’t have the extra remote an extra key I feel is necessary. Over all the car seems ok, just a few of the things I mentioned should be worked on. More

Someone recommended I ask for Nils, and they were right. He was very nice to work with and very knowledgable. I drove 3 cars and had difficulty deciding. I had seen one on line at Stockton and wanted to He was very nice to work with and very knowledgable. I drove 3 cars and had difficulty deciding. I had seen one on line at Stockton and wanted to check it out. He even took us to Stockton, and that turned out to be the one. He was so accommodating, and I appreciated all his effort. Nice car and mostly good experience, Nils was very good to work with. The only issue is the chip in the windshield that is right in my driver line of site. There was a smudge of white soap over it when w to work with. The only issue is the chip in the windshield that is right in my driver line of site. There was a smudge of white soap over it when we did our test drive. Similar to the "soap" mark that was in the upper left of the windshield. Both soap marks are on the pictures I took and sent to my daughter of the outback on the lot. Please acknowledge in writing that this will be taken care of! John More

Very pleased with the experience we had in purchasing our vehicle. Tim was quick to take care of the problem we heard on the test drive, He not only fixed it but offered a warranty.
