I went in for a test drive and when I made the reservation I was told to ask for Christine. I did so when I came in, and I was introduced to a salesman named Moe. OK, not too happy about that, but fine. Moe was pleasant but not particularly engaged. I told him I came in for the test drive on the Elantra and he wasn't sure if the car was still in stock, so he went to check. Was kind of surprised that needed to be done since I presumed it would be ready for me to drive since I specifically requested that car. While we were waiting to see if the car was available, we exchanged a few pleasantries and Moe's cell phone rang and he took the call, which happened to be a buddy of his. He did half excuse himself to me, chatted for a few minutes and then wrapped up the call. I wasn't impressed with the distraction. Once his phone call was done, he filled out a form and asked how I was paying, along with other information. Once he found out I was paying directly instead of financing, his engagement in this sale waned. Luckily the car was in stock at the other dealership within their group on the next block, so we walked over. He started up the car for me and let me sit in the car for a few minutes. When I mentioned I wanted to test drive it, he seemed vaguely surprised that I would ask. He made a show of how he would have to have employees move their cars to be able to pull out onto the main street. The dealership is on a main street without a parking lot for customers/employees, so that made sense. It almost sounded like it would be a chore for him to do. It struck me as odd. To top off the entirely indifferent experience, the price had jumped 20% in the 4 days between scheduling the test drive and going to the lot. I only discovered that when I checked the link on the website to get the stock number for Moe to look up. Turns out the original price had been a Black Friday price, which hadn't been updated until a full 5 weeks after the Thanksgiving weekend. After all that, I didn't even test drive the car!! I was not happy with my experience that day, so I decided to cut my losses and leave. I let Moe know I was no longer interested and gave him back the keys and walked away. I was more than ready to buy that car that day since it was what I was looking for but the middling service I received plus the price jump soured the experience. Good customer service is so easy to give, yet so many places truly do it well. Island Toyota, unfortunately, was no exception in this case in my experience with them. More
