We seen the true trade in value on our vehicle then the salesman left this desk and got his sales manager. Our trade was valued at $9700.00 minus $500.00 repair on a door which would have been $9200.00 net trade in value. They depreciated our vehicle down to $8500.00 without us knowing. In that depreciation of our car we were told by the salesman and sales manager they were deducting $425.00 for a safety inspection fee that no other dealerships are charging. When dealing with this dealership, question any and all charges so that you don't end up paying a $425.00 safety inspection fee that may be hidden in your sales agreement on your trade in. Second Review After posting our first review on DealerRater on May 6, 2021, this is a supplement because we didn’t feel that it was adequate in explaining our car buying experience and the deceptive practices that went along with purchasing our vehicle that we feel its important to further explain our situation and concern we have for the public in dealing with a dealership like this one. And the disregard and lack of empathy for the public. Went to purchase a car at Inver Grove Honda and worked with a salesman named Corey ____. We looked at the KBB value on our trade and Corey looked up KBB on his computer at the dealership and he came in at a price of $9,700 at trade in which I seen on his computer screen. We picked out a certified car and we test drove and we discovered that the car had been painted and overspray over the entire car. He seen the dent on the passenger door and overspray on right rear quarter panel and overspray on the rest of the car. During the process of us purchasing the car and us trading in our car they ran a car fax on both cars and both came back with damage reported. Greg ________, sales manager came out and discussed damages on both cars. He said they were going to charge us a $425 safety inspection fee on our trade in. I questioned that fee. He said other dealerships are doing that. They were dishonest with us and said other dealerships are doing this. I didn’t think that was right and I explained that to him. On 3/15/21 we called two Honda dealerships in the metro area and two dealerships in the Inver Grove Heights area and not one of them charge a $425 safety inspection fee on a trade in vehicle. What this dealer is doing is selling at retail and taking our car in at wholesale. This fee was not documented on the purchase contract. They are making plenty of money to pay their employees for a service that should be standard without charging the customer that other dealerships are not charging. We feel this is a deceptive practice and dishonest if other dealerships are not charging this fee. In turn they are taking money out of our trade that the other dealerships are not charging the customer for. We feel this is unfair and dishonest to charge for this safety inspection and feel we are entitled to this fee that they stole from us and furthermore we feel we should be reimbursed for the money and the difference in taxes that they deducted from our trade. Our comments regarding Inver Grove Honda’s response letter dated from State attorney office. When speaking to Corey on 3-15-21 about the $425.00 inspection fee, I did not request a call back. I told him that I was going to file a complaint to the appropriate state agencies. Brian never brought up the term “reconditioning” during our conversation on the phone on 3-15-21. We were not shown this Current Market Value sheet of paper that we just received through a state attorney office which does show a “Safety Inspection fee of $425.00 which is in black and white. I was quoted from a body shop $500 for repair and paint on the front passenger door which I told Inver Grove Honda at the time of trade in and I expected a deduction of $500 from our trade in value of our car. The car was in almost pristine condition when we traded it in other than the minor door damage. There should have been no extra diminished value given for our vehicle on their KBB value funny money sheet. We did not sign this sheet and it did not show up on our sales contract. Me or my wife have never seen this sheet of paper. This is something we feel they put together to substantiate what they have charged us and what didn’t happen and a conversation we never had which is more underhanded tactics like they did when they sold us the car. Brian was not involved with the initial negotiation tactics and the direct lies they used on us when selling us their used vehicle. Other than this new Current Market Value sheet and Brian’s false interpretation of the event after the fact, this was all addressed in our original complaint. The $425.00 fee that we caught the dealership charging substantiates our claim from the beginning. Why would they send us a check for the $425.00 that is the same amount on the Current Market Value sheet and we were told to our face that would initially be charged and also is included in our initial complaint sent to your office. When speaking to the state attorney office we initially expressed in this complaint that the safety inspection was always the issue and that we were lied to. Inver Grove Honda is trying to call it something else, i.e. a "reconditioning" expense when it states in their paperwork in black and white a $425.00 “safety inspection fee” was charged. Both the salesman, Corey and the Sales Manager, Greg both used the term "Safety Inspection Fee" in the context of our conversations when purchasing our vehicle and that I questioned that I had never heard of at the time of negotiation. They told us to our face that that everyone is charging this safety inspection fee and now changed the term to “reconditioning expense.” They are now doing the same thing to you in their statement stating their so called story. What they are doing is a bate and switch doing the same thing they did to us. We have not seen this market value sheet on our car and it was not discussed and we seen different numbers that Corey came up with on his computer screen and what we ended up being charged. In taking in a car from trade in value to their retail value there is a profit margin built in to that between the trade in and retail and misc. repairs should be covered under that. Other dealers told us directly that that is the cost of doing business. Anything such as damage should be taken our of your trade which should have already been done in this case. Just like this $425.00 “safety inspection fee” like they are trying to charge the customer that they shouldn't be charging because of the profit they make in taking in a trade. I would hope that whatever agency involved should be obligated to try and protect and hold these dealerships to a standard of honesty and integrity like people expect. Also I would not use Inver Grove Honda again or trust them or any of there employees when they lie to people especially who may be unaware of the tactics they use and what really goes on in this dealership. At this time we feel this is a lost cause and it falls on deaf ears so to offset our losses we have reluctantly decided that we will cash this check for $425.00. When trying to report this situation with a state over site office which deals in the licensing and oversight of dealers, Monika out of that agency stated in a very unprofessional way that the dealers can charge whatever they want to. I’m also appalled at the MN State agencies being paid by the taxpayers that should be protecting the general public from these unscrupulous dealers. They are supposed to keep these people accountable and they are not doing their jobs and protecting the public. And we contacted another higher ranking state entity that we have yet to hear back from on these issues which does not surprise us either and these are your tax dollars at work. Steps we took to address this dealership fell on deaf ears. Why are we paying taxes for these agencies when they are not doing their jobs. By these entities letting this dealership get away with what they want to do, emboldens them to continue on with their unscrupulous ways. This bait and switch tactic has been going on in the auto industry forever. If I was going to buy another vehicle I would go to any dealership other than this one. More
