I was "just kidding" my salesman, Chuck Thomas, when I told him he was the "least annoying" of all the sales people I had encountered in my previous two weeks of car shopping. In fact, his calm, when I told him he was the "least annoying" of all the sales people I had encountered in my previous two weeks of car shopping. In fact, his calm, confident and informative approach was very professional and put me at ease right away and all during our conversations. I fully appreciated his help and would highly recommend this outstanding man as being head and shoulders above any automobile sales person I have ever encountered. I am a 62 year old retired hotel Food & Beverage mgr. - so along the way, I've dealt with my share of salespeople! But here's the rub: The Infinity dealership sold me a beautiful mint condition 2007 Ford Explorer/Eddie Bauer edition. Of course it was sold with no warranty and in "As Is" condition. It test drove wonderfully and seemed to work flawlessly for three days. Then, on Sunday, I took a drive for pleasure up Mt. Evans, the highest paved road in America at 14,000 remote feet with no cell phone service. I parked and enjoyed the view. My new 2007 used Explorer would not start. In fact, it had a complete and catastrophic electrical failure. Absolutely NONE of the many heralded power options would respond. Even the emergency warning flashing lights would not work! I was completely stranded. I hiked to the Echo Lake lodge, and using their landline telephone, I was able to call a tow truck in Idaho Springs to come to my aid. They towed me to Denver and I am currently waiting for the repair bill from Lakewood Fordland. Obviously everything is at my expense. At the time of the sale, for which I paid cash in it's entirety (no financed amount), I was assured that this vehicle had been completely checked by the dealer's mechanics and "certified" to be in excellent condition. So here's the question: Was my unfortunate experience just a rare fluke and unlikely to be foreseen? - - Or was I a victim of an old carnival trick similar to the "sawdust in the transmission" scam? I have no clue. Remember, I'm a retired F&B mgr. not a car mechanic. The bottom line is that the sales experience was much more than satisfactory, I felt I was treated in an excellent manner by a top notch professional: Chuck Thomas. The vehicle I purchased, though, turned out to be a complete disappointment! Sincerely, Don Gaylien E-mail: dgaylien@gmail.com More
