Purchasing a car for the first time can be nerve wrecking! However, to my surprise and total relief, my shopping experience at Honda of the Avenues was far from traumatizing. I had the pleasure of wrecking! However, to my surprise and total relief, my shopping experience at Honda of the Avenues was far from traumatizing. I had the pleasure of working with Gabriel Valenzuela- a very respectful and attentive employee. He listened to my list (and it was a long one) of needs and he delivered! I am now the proud owner of a Honda Civic and I love it! I was able to negotiate a price I was comfortable with. Gabriel went above and beyond by making sure the car met my overall approval. I saw cosmetic work that needed to be done before I agreed to take the car off the lot. Gabriel sought permission to loan a company car to me while the car I had purchased was sent to be beautified. It looks brand NEW! I am very grateful for the positive experience and I highly recommend working with this fantastic man to all of my friends, family, and prospective car buyers. More
I purchased a used Honda Civic from Honda of The Avenues October 29th, 2013 and I am loving it! Before I reached my final negotiations with the dealer, I requested that some cosmetic work be done first. T October 29th, 2013 and I am loving it! Before I reached my final negotiations with the dealer, I requested that some cosmetic work be done first. The car was sent to be worked on by Eric Lundy and crew. While I was waiting to get my car back, Mr. Lundy was sure to keep me afloat of all progress by sending pictures via email almost every day. I was very impressed by his high level of professionalism. The car looks brand new! I would highly recommend Mr. Lundy's services. More
Stay away! The sales manager (Apollo Folks) and finance guy use every trick in the book to make you pay top dollar. I knew it was a bad sign when one of the first questions I was asked was how much can I a guy use every trick in the book to make you pay top dollar. I knew it was a bad sign when one of the first questions I was asked was how much can I afford to pay per month. Then came all the games. Actually, the two salesmen I worked with were pretty good. They even seemed embarrassed by the antics of the sales and finance managers. Bottom line, if you go here, expect the full-on old-school car salesman tricks. The games start long before you pull into the lot because they add $2000-$5000 in crappy dealer add-ons to every car. These range from semi-useful items such as upgraded rims, to useful but wildly overpriced items such as floor mats and all the way to completely useless items like Polysteel treatment for $500. The Polysteel treatment is interesting in that they seem to put it on every car they sell (so you don't have a choice) and even though you're being charged $500 for it, it comes with no warranty. I was curious about this and I called IAS, the company behind Polysteel, and they told me they didn't sell ANY products without a warranty. Is Honda of the Avenues pulling a fast one on IAS as well as the customer? I'm not sure, but it smells pretty fishy to me. Other tactics they use are the back-and-forth between you, your salesman and the sales manager. Continuously playing with the numbers. For example, say you're about $2000 off what you want to pay for the car, the salesman might bring back a sheet with your price as the bottom line but they've added a line item above for a down payment of $2000! Huh? Then they try to make you sign a paper saying you'll buy now if they meet your payment price goal. This obviously isn't binding, it's just another game to make you buy at a higher price (see, we met your payment goal by financing over 6 years!). Once you've settled on a price and you think you're done, you enter a whole new level of games. They make you wait for the finance guy. They want you to be rushed to jump in your new car so you don't look too closely at the contracts. There are good dealerships that don't play too many games at finance, and then there is Honda at the Avenues where you should really have an attorney with you to read things over when you sign. They go right back to playing the how-much-can-you-pay-per-month games. The down-payment may change, the interest rate is likely different than what was promised (it was for me and a higher rate usually gets the dealer a kickback), and they have a whole new set of dealer add-ons (protection plans, another Polysteel product, GAP insurance etc). These are all overpriced add-ons that you're made to feel stupid for turning down. I would recommend that, unless you're very experienced in all the tricks of the trade, you go to a reputable dealer. Even if you are experienced, it's an exhausting endeavor and probably not worth your time. More
