I've been taking my Civic to Honda Service for several years. However, a disturbing experience with Honda Auto Center of Bellevue has completely eroded my trust in the company. To summarize: I do not b years. However, a disturbing experience with Honda Auto Center of Bellevue has completely eroded my trust in the company. To summarize: I do not believe Honda Auto Center of Bellevue can be trusted - either for the integrity of their pricing or vehicle inspection reporting due to the following practices: · Exorbitant pricing · Deceitful labor estimates · Disingenuous service recommendations Below are the details of my experience: I took my vehicle to Honda Auto Center of Bellevue for a routine oil change and tire rotation. To my surprise, Honda recommended $3,000+ in replacement parts, which were listed as "critical concerns" in my vehicle inspection report. Trusting Honda, which I now regret, I gave them the green light to proceed with the replacements. However, after discovering the information bulleted below, I asked Honda to pause my service request so I could obtain a second opinion elsewhere: · Exorbitant Pricing: I discovered that each of Honda's quotes were ~$200+ more than the *maximum* estimates for my make/model and location (I confirmed this to be true with another service shop as well). The reasons Honda Auto Center of Bellevue provided for this staggering differential were: "Times are hard" and "Honda is the OEM." Bottom line: 20%+ above market maximums is exorbitant - times are hard for the consumer, too. · Deceitful labor estimates: After expressing my concerns with their prices, Honda Auto Center of Bellevue offered a 10% discount and said they could reduce the labor fee for the belt tensioner by some percentage due to overlapping labor with the water pump replacement. Why didn't Honda offer the discount to begin with? Would Honda have mentioned the overlapping labor costs if I hadn't expressed concern? I told the service rep I'd like to get a second opinion from another shop, at which point she offered a 15% discount and a *full* subtraction of labor costs for the belt tensioner. As it turns out, the labor cost for the tensioner was wholly unjustified from the start. According to another shop where I received a second opinion, *no* additional labor is required if the tensioner is replaced at the time of the water pump replacement. Bottom line: Honda Auto Center of Bellevue quoted me $425 in unnecessary labor, and only eliminated the fee in its entirety after I expressed concerns twice. · Disingenuous recommendations: Honda Auto Center of Bellevue did not explain in their vehicle inspection report why they cited a $933.36 water pump replacement as a "critical concern." When asked, they attributed the recommendation to the mileage on my car. I later discovered that there was "nothing physically wrong with the water pump" after getting a second opinion elsewhere. Bottom line: Not only did Honda not explain the reason for a "critical concern" in their vehicle inspection report, they also chose not to disclose the current condition of my water pump. I had to take my vehicle elsewhere to discover that the pump was fine. At best, these experiences reflect a lack of transparency by Honda Auto Center of Bellevue. At worst, they reflect dishonest intentions to exploit the consumer. More
Third vehicle we've bought at Bellevue Honda, both thru Kevin Solinger. Kevin is very knowledgeable regarding Honda products, having spent his younger years on the tools as a Honda mechanic. He is open, Kevin Solinger. Kevin is very knowledgeable regarding Honda products, having spent his younger years on the tools as a Honda mechanic. He is open, honest, and lives up to his commitments. We've bought Hondas since 1994 and dealt with other Seattle area Honda dealers. Bellevue stands out as the best in our experience. More
