Great service and reliable technicians. James was very clear about what was being done and how long everything would take. I would gladly come back and have my vehicle serviced again. One of the most sophisticated, deceptive, slick scams I have ever encountered. The non-profit foundation that owns the 2010 X5 is selling or donating it so as not to be subjected to more intentional financ have ever encountered. The non-profit foundation that owns the 2010 X5 is selling or donating it so as not to be subjected to more intentional financial exploitation by this company. We received three recalls for this car during the last five years, allegedly requiring immediate dealer attention. ( Not expected for a car that is known for quality.) In fact, the recalls are nothing more than clever and deceptive ways to create a sense of urgency and allow Herb Chambers to evaluate your car for triple ordinary price repairs. In each case, the estimate for additional "service" and repairs supposedly needed was always around $5000. In this week's visit the total was just below this amount and included unneeded items such as flushing the brake fluid for $260 and replacing a windshield cowl for over $1700 after it disintegrated without cause. They also claimed there was massive oil leakage, despite the fact that there has never been any oil on the garage floor or requirement to add additional oil to maintain the appropriate current levels. There is no doubt that from the time you arrive on the property, every member of the well-trained staff treats you like you were the Dalai Lama. They'll give you rides, snacks. and polish your shoes, if necessary. But the truth is, it is part of their facade and ploy to allow them to gain your complete trust, exploit your ignorance of mechanical issues, and inflate costs to the very maximum with which they can get away. Repairs and service at the dealership are at least three times what they cost at the independant shop that regularly maintains our vehicle. The company knew exactly why the car was being brought in for the bolt replacement and how long that might take, but waited until I got there to tell me they needed to keep the car overnight. this was so they could prepare a video and estimate of allegedly critical repairs needed and send it to me by email for approval. They ignored my email response that asked to not flush the brake fluid after I was advised by an experienced mechanic that it was not necessary. I managed to get the price down to $500 from the $700 they wanted, but was charged a couple of hundred for the list they prepared to earn them and additional $5000. So, I actually paid them to attempt to scam us. While I know there is little I can do, I have taken photos of the alleged repairs and have serious questions as to whether even the recall of replacing the vanos bolts was completed. I am preparing a detailed letter to BMW corporate and Chambers management to outline my arguments but expect no rational or civil response. They know exactly what they are doing to make this dealership one of the most profitable in the world. But there are other ways to fight crap like this where you cannot trust a dealership to be fair and honest. One recent post of mine got 1.6 million views on Facebook with several hundred thousand engagements. I hope to achieve the same with the post on which I am working to warn others about Herb Chambers. If I can save ten people from being scammed, it will be worth the time spent providing details and documentation in support of my arguments that Herb Chambers should be avoided whenever possible. I am also considering filing a complaint with the Consumer Affairs division of the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General, Andrea Campbell. The public needs to be warned about scams like this one. More
