I was disappointed and insulted by the lack of professionalism at the parts department at Herb Chambers BMW Boston. I will provide some data from my perspective so that others may be able to bene professionalism at the parts department at Herb Chambers BMW Boston. I will provide some data from my perspective so that others may be able to benefit from my experiences and decide for themselves. At a minimum, one moral of the story is: If you live in New Hampshire, call from a Boston area phone for a quote, they use caller ID and you will receive a better price due to a “more competitive market”. I called the parts department for quote on two BMW original equipment Rims that I needed to replace. After providing the VIN they were able to locate two in stock and quoted a price of $359.91 each, and provided me with a Quote #. After checking with the Peabody dealer and finding they only had one in stock (quoted the same price), I called Herb Chambers back, provided my quote # and reserved the Rims – I was then provided an invoice #. When the rims were picked up an hour later the invoice read: $479.58 each. A 33% increase. The responses provided (in order) 1) “$479.58 is the list price, we didn’t realize you were quoted something lower” (Peabody quoted the same $359.91 price) 2) “Sorry, we thought you needed Rear rims not front rims” (VIN # shows all 4 rims are the same, and the right rim was provided) 3) “I’m sorry, this was my fault (manager), I didn’t want to keep you on hold long, so I had <someone else> process your order, and it was a clerical error. We are fixing it now” After writing a letter to the dealership, the GM apologized for the error saying it was due to two customers calling from different “markets” (NH vs MA) at the same time that led to the confusion, and that this never happens. A request for a written response on how the clerical error was made was refused, even though this would have made me more comfortable trusting their services in the future. This error caused just a couple hundred dollars in potential losses (whether intentional or not). What if the error were replacing the wrong brakes or an error in some other service that could pose a risk to the driver? More

In order to understand my experience, I should mention that I am a discerning BMW customer. I have driven BMWs since 1997 and I bleed White and Blue, in addition to Red, White, and Blue. I chose Herb Ch that I am a discerning BMW customer. I have driven BMWs since 1997 and I bleed White and Blue, in addition to Red, White, and Blue. I chose Herb Chambers BMW of Boston because they had the car I wanted and because they don't just try to sell you a car; they partner with you and help you get the car you really want. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by everybody I encountered on my way to see Nick Lagas, my sales advisor. Nick Lagas was nothing short of spectacular. He was very supportive, friendly, and he seemed genuinely interested in seeing that I was happy with my choice, before we signed the papers. Nick is a true brand enthusiast. He knew that I walked in with one specific car in mind (a very beautiful CPO, 328I Convertible)and even though they had two other, more expensive, convertibles on the lot, he never tried to steer me toward the more expensive cars. He knew that I had researched this car thoroughly and he made sure that we were able to make this deal. Nick is the best sales person I've ever dealt with, mainly because his personality is in line with my regular friends'. Nick is the type of guy I would gladly have a beer with. He knows a great deal about BMWs and, upon delivery, he went over all the car's features and even taught me a few things about the car I wasn't aware of, such as some obscure voice commands I've never seen written anywhere. I am a loyal customer of Herb Chambers and this is the fourth BMW I have bought from them since 1997. I especially like their smart-price policy. No negotiation on the buying side, but there's plenty of leeway with negotiating add-ons and the trade-in. Their prices are very competitive and in many cases, several thousand dollars less than their competitors'. In this case, Nick was able to include a few options that were important to me and helped me get a better trade-in offer than the original appraisal. I was also very impressed by the general manager, Melissa Ferry, who came over to meet me personally, since we had spoken on the phone. She was super friendly and thanked me for going over and doing business with them. I've never had a general manager come over and introduce herself before this instance. Last, but not least, their business manager, Sammi Tong Iqbal, was very friendly and outgoing and when she found out that I had visited her native city, Hong Kong, we developed sort of a bond. Although she offered me many packages such as tire warranty, maintenance warranty, Simoniz, etc., she was not at all pushy and respected my wishes to decline all that she was offering. This was one of the best car buying experience, if not the best, that I've ever had. The car was delivered in showroom-like condition, and it is a great pleasure to drive. I highly recommend this dealer. If you like no hassles and no games, this dealership sets the standards for all the others to follow. Do yourself a favor and contact Nick Lagas before you pay them a visit. Joe Pirrotta More
This is not so much a review of the sales process at Herb Chambers BMW as it is a guide for how to approach shopping for a car at Herb Chambers BMW. Having now gone with a friend to lease a car there and bee Chambers BMW as it is a guide for how to approach shopping for a car at Herb Chambers BMW. Having now gone with a friend to lease a car there and been trying to negotiate a lease for myself over there over the past few days, I've learned a few things I think are worth sharing. Note: If you have money to burn and don't care overpaying for something in exchange for having the salesmen suck up to you, disregard this review; you will be treated like a king and be screwed over in the process. 1) Do yourself a favor and ask your sales advisor to not involve the sales manager Tim in the sales process at all. Why ? Because he is extremely pushy and fake and will say things that will have you wondering whether your actually at a used car lot and not negotiating $40-100K+ cars. For example, he said to us, "(Name), you didn't buy a car; you leased a BMW", and "I'm feeling crazy; I need to sell a car," and "We're losing money on this deal!" ...I hope that no one shopping at any BMW dealer is dumb enough to think that the dealer is losing money on a deal, and the fact that Tim said that makes it that much more obvious that he thinks (1) you are an idiot and/or (2) that the products he's selling don't actually sell themselves and need him to lie in order to reach a deal. In any case, it's off-putting and just ruined the sales experience for my friend. After I specifically asked my sales advisor to not work with Tim, I was assigned a much friendlier (but no less shady) manager named Tom (?). At the very least, the sales advisor knew to keep Tim away from me so I didn't have to see Tim and I also didn't have to deal with them double-teaming me in order to sell their car that much. 2) If your sales manager or sales adviser insists that there is a $925 lease acquisition fee and that that fee is set by BMW, know that they are lying and remember that it isn't the first or last time they will lie to you in order to make a deal. They told me this and it was only until I explained to them that I knew BMW set a minimum fee of $725 and that anything over that was another way for the dealer to make a profit that they backed down and lowered the fee to $725. 3) Whatever car you decide on, they will try to offer you a tire and wheel protection policy once you've reached a deal and are just anxious to sign the papers and leave the dealer. From what I've read, this package is highly recommended because of the nature of the run-flat tires BMWs come with nowadays. They charged my friend $1300 for a 24 or 27 month lease; when I asked them to quote me a price on the package before making a deal and mentioned to them that I knew it was negotiable that they came back with a $1100 quote for 36 months. THERE IS ROOM TO NEGOTIATE WITH WHATEVER PRICE THEY QUOTE YOU. 4) My sales advisor (Sean Bresnahan) was clearly very knew and couldn't actually do much himself, so he was essentially just a middle man who would take what I said to the sales manager and vice versa. It seems there are some more experienced salesmen nearby (for example, Nick, seated to my salesman's left in their current upstairs location), but if the conversation I overheard him having with a customer is any indication, he will only be on your side so long as you're a sucker and they're making a big profit off of you. Why do I say that? Because I heard him raising his voice over the phone at a customer who ended up getting their vehicle at another dealer and saying that he should feel ashamed of himself for buying/leasing his car from another dealer. I'd probably ask not to work with him (Nick), too, if I ever went back to Herb Chamber BMW. All of that said, do your homework, go in with the lowest price you're willing to pay in mind (check invoice prices only and definitely don't pay more than $1500 over it), and be prepared to wait a lonnnnnggggg time while the 15+ sales managers huddle around their computers and figure out how to make more money off of you, and you might just come away with a reasonable deal. So, basically, this dealer is as successful as it is because it's the only place in town. Go check out an Audi dealership to see just how much better (read: more honest) the car buying process can be. If you are set on a BMW, do your homework and be prepared for an awful experience at Herb Chambers BMW. More
