They were an awesome dealership. They didn't do the multi-dealer swarm when we arrived. They had a wide variety of new and user cars and the lending department was friendly and knowledgeable. multi-dealer swarm when we arrived. The quality of work in the Gene Reed Toyota service department is the best I have experienced. The staff greet you very promptly. The estimates for the work to be performed are accurate. The prices are department is the best I have experienced. The staff greet you very promptly. The estimates for the work to be performed are accurate. The prices are fair considering the cost of parts and labor involved in the repairs performed on our Toyota 2002 4Runner. We had the 90K mile service completed. Water pump, timing belt, other belts, transmission service, differential fluid, and spark plugs were replaced. We're ready for the next 90K miles. Thanks to all who worked on our vehicle. More
Outstanding experience, outstanding people, and what a sweet car. Have you ever flown in coach and wondered what it is like to fly business class or first class? Will riding in or driving an Avalon is the sweet car. Have you ever flown in coach and wondered what it is like to fly business class or first class? Will riding in or driving an Avalon is the equivant of flying business class, a great ride, lots of room front and back (even reclining rear seats), lots of class. The cocoa bean metallic is a gorgeous color. Coupled with the leather seats, a fantastic sound system, and other gizmos makes this car just soooo sweet. This leads me to my first big problem; my wife just won't quit smiling. She is as happy as a little girl in a candy store. I have been working with David Pugh along time and sought his advice. David recommended Richard Sommer and he was right on target. Our house was robbed in March while we were at work and the car stolen that same night so we needed some TLC(no pushy salesman), which is exactly what we got. My wife, understandably, wanted to get rid of our Avalon, which was recovered after nearly a week of being AWOL. We made three visits to Gene Reed. The first was to preview Avalons and Camrys, which we did with no sales pressure, which was good. The second trip to the dealership ended with us leaving after realizing we really could not afford an Avalon. It was not to easy leaving as different proposals were floated but my fun meter was pegged out and it was time to go. I did not want to be talked into something, a deal or a car, and made this clear and it was easily accepted. I knew that the the sales people and everyone else there felt or were taught that once we left we may not be back. I assured them we would but in our own time. I'm sure this was tough on Chris but he and Richard were gentlemen and said they understood. They did not try to intercede with our decision or give us the last second "what about ...." deal. Chris called mid week and I postponed our visit until the weekend. Chris accepted my word and did not hound me, which may have delayed my return. On Saturday we set a time to meet. We drove the Camry V-6 and the Camry Hybrid but we couldn't make up our mind. The trunk space in the hybrid was lacking a bit for us so that sent us towards the V-6 but, we still were not 100 percent on board with the V-6. On the way back into the show room a dark colored Avalon caught our eye, an XLS to be exact (Chris did you plant that car there knowing we would walk past it?--you devil you! We took the 2009 Avalon for a ride and it was easy to see my wife was in love with this car. We gave Chris the nod and proceeded to the next phase of the purchase. Most of the documentation was already completed from the previous Avalon we considered so it was pulled and some of it was used for this purchase. This sped up the whole process. Richard kept his word about the deal we struck for the trade-in the week before. That was a big help and a relief. Bill worked with the numbers so we had a payment that we could handle and I didn't feel like or notice any slight of hand, or pen, was taking place. David came by and congratulated us. I would have liked to make LoJack part of the package but I need to find out the cost and other particulars. The Limited had an anti-theft mechanism that prevents the car from being driven far. This could be another option to install on the XLS. I simply cannot afford the stress of having this car stolen or the associated financial problems so I need something to protect my investment. I rated the price as four vice five stars as the price can always be less. I would have really preferred payments $25 lower if possible. The car is expensive but this will most likely be our last new car so we went for it. Working life and end of life are now on the horizon--that is life. My only concern is having extra money to keep fixing that 1993 4-runner that I keep bringing to David. It has 208,000 plus miles on it, original clutch and a possible rear seal leak, but, it has to keep running. This is the curse of payments coupled with the curse of keeping an old truck running. In any case my wife is very happy and I was allowed to drive it last night. What a sweet ride. Thanks guys. P.S. The last time I drove my wife's Avalon I got a ticket. The noise and ride environment did not warn me like my truck would that I was doing 60-something in a 45 mph zone. The ride was so smooth just like being in a Boeing 747. More
I visited Gene Reed Toyota-Scion on March 26, 2009 looking to purchase a used car. I visited a number of dealerships that week and was tired and annoyed by their arrogance. I got to Gene Reed early th looking to purchase a used car. I visited a number of dealerships that week and was tired and annoyed by their arrogance. I got to Gene Reed early that morning in order to look around and not be crowed by salesmen. After I saw two cars I liked, salesmen Robert Powell served me and he had a great attitude, making me feel good about coming into Gene Reed. I was then sent to Dwayne Ladson, Finance Manager. After a while, in his office, I started to feel like I was at one of the previous dealerships. We were able to finance the car and I put down $2500.00. Dwayne then brought up extra warranty. I informed him that I did not want extra warranty, so I sign paper work to that affect. Before signing the sales contract, I noticed there was a $1631.70 added to the price for Fidelity Warranty. When I questioned that, Dwayne told me that the finance agent preferred that all their cars have warranty mind you the car is still covered under warranty. I took his word and signed the contract. I went to make my first payment on May 11, 2009 and asked about the warranty. I was told they did not require extra warranty for a car loan. I felt angry and deceived by Gene Reed Toyota. I like my car, but I do not see myself at this point, choosing Gene Reed in the future. More

The service personnel was friendly and quick to provide shuttle service when dropping off our 07 Sequoia for warranty work. After assessing the problem, we were initially told that the DVD player that was shuttle service when dropping off our 07 Sequoia for warranty work. After assessing the problem, we were initially told that the DVD player that was in the vehicle at the time of purchase appeared to be an aftermarket product and would not be covered under warranty. We immediately called the dealership that sold us the vehicle who confirmed that it was a Toyota part and should be covered under warranty which he communicated to the service rep at Gene Reed Toyota. We were told the following day that they were unable to cover the repair under warranty without verification of the installer which he was unable to obtain from the dealership that sold us the vehicle. We called the service dept at the other dealership once again and they faxed a copy of the work order to the Gene Reed service rep who agreed to cover the work under warranty. We were disappointed both in the initial erroneous communication regarding the DVD player's waarnty coverage status as well as our level of involvement as an intermediary between the two service departments in clearing up the issue. At no point did the Gene Reed service rep seem apologetic, but rather provided a litany of inconsistent explanations as to why the inaccurate information was communicated. My wife and I have owned 8 Toyota vehicles (2 Celicas, 1 Camry, 2 4-Runners, 1 Sienna, 1 Sequoia and 1 Highlander) between the two of us dating back to when we were in college, and we continue to purchase them because of their quality and reliability. We had a few unpleasant service experiences at Gene Reed Toyota in the past, but had actually found the level of service to be quite good in recent years especially since the move to the new location a few years ago. This visit will no doubt be our last and has us both questioning why with so many other options that we continue to purchase from this manufacturer when our local dealership makes it so unpleasant to own them. From the second I walked into the door I was greeted, and the sales person immediately asked me what I was looking for, and took me to the lot to look at cars within my price range. I never felt pressured t the sales person immediately asked me what I was looking for, and took me to the lot to look at cars within my price range. I never felt pressured to buy the car, and was able to add the options that I wanted, and still get a good deal on the car. From the salesperson, to the financing staff, everyone treated me with respect, and if I were to purchase in the future I would choose a Gene Reed dealership, even though I live in Ohio!!! The salesperson has already called me several times to make sure that I am still happy with my decision. I definitely recommend Gene Reed and Michael Halls to anyone in North Charleston looking to purchase a vehicle. More
