Last week, on March 21st, I purchased my dream car, a 2021 Toyota certified TRD Pro 4Runner in Lunar Rock. Unfortunately, some poor decisions/business practices made by the dealership who sold this vehi 2021 Toyota certified TRD Pro 4Runner in Lunar Rock. Unfortunately, some poor decisions/business practices made by the dealership who sold this vehicle to me, Hartford Toyota located in Hartford Connecticut, has led me here to leave this review. I should note, this is not the fault of the sales associate who helped me through my purchase. Jenn was lovely and a pleasure to deal with. I should start by briefly introducing myself. I'm 27 years old, own and operate my own small business in rural Vermont, and saved up for a long, long time to afford a TRD Pro 4runner. When I purchased my vehicle from Hartford Toyota, I did so with the intent to use the TRD Pro 4runner as it's intended, off road, on forest service roads in the backcountry. Since I live in rural Vermont, and since used/certified TRD Pro's in Lunar Rock tend to sell extremely quickly, I had to purchase my vehicle site unseen, depending only on the dealership's photos of said truck (which I have attached). I trusted the safety of this sale because the vehicle was a Toyota certified pre-owned, which is the gold standard for used cars. Unfortunately, after selling the vehicle to me, and taking my hard earned money, Hartford Toyota decided to replace the 4Runner's OEM tires with the cheapest tires possible, ones not even rated/suitable for off-roading. I personally view this decision as a slimey bait and switch move. Since I had traveled from out of state to pick up my truck, I was exhausted on the date of the sale, and, unfortunately, did not notice this swap until I was driving home to Vermont. What I'm particularly upset about is the fact that I paid top dollar for a TRD Pro 4runner with offroading capabilities, and what I received was not so. I did not receive the 4runner I was sold in the pictures/video of the truck that I had paid for. I would not be able to drive on even the tamest mountain pass with the tires they have sold me on this vehicle, even though they had pictures of OEM all terrain tires in their listing, and in their sales videos they had sent me to encourage me to place a deposit down on the truck. Upon requesting information as to why my truck's tires were swapped out after purchasing the vehicle, I was stonewalled by the dealership. After speaking with a lower level sales manager, I was told someone higher up would reach back to me; they never did. The only fact the dealership is willing to acknowledge is that the tires were swapped out in order to meet Toyota's tread life standard for certified pre owned vehicles. They view this matter as “open and shut”. I'm not made of money, and I certainly didn't budget out an additional $1,000 to make my newly purchased certified pre owned TRD Pro 4runner off-road capable. Certainly, this is not the service I should expect from a typical Toyota Dealership. More
