There are two kinds of repair shops. (This is not the good k There are two types of repair shops. Type 1: A shop that charges a diagnostic fee because it's necessary to prevent people from wasting their time, There are two types of repair shops. Type 1: A shop that charges a diagnostic fee because it's necessary to prevent people from wasting their time, but then they are fair and reasonable enough to deduct the fee from any repair services you choose to engage in. Or at least make the rate variable based on how much time it takes to actually diagnose the problem. Type 1 also will give you ADVICE about whether or not your problem needs fixing, Partyka Chevy service center is NOT this type. They are Type 2. Type 2: A shop that charges you a diagnostic fee that is not dependent on the actual amount of labor involved in diagnosis, and also is not deductable from the repair costs. It's like if your security deposit for your rental unit was non-refundable, regardless of if you kept the place pristine. Type 2 also would never, under any circumstances, offer to you the idea that your problem doesn't actually need fixing. Rather than use an opportunity like that to build strong trust and credibility, they choose to kill the goose with golden eggs, and take the short term profit. I just moved to New Haven, and am trying to decide where to take my future car repair needs. My recent visit to Partyka Chevy Service center made it clear that they are Type 2. I will go elsewhere, because there are LOTS of perfectly good Type 1 places. More
