Best car buying experience thus far In February I traded in my trusty old vw golf for a brand new vw suv at Casey vw. The transaction was a nightmare from the get go. From having charge In February I traded in my trusty old vw golf for a brand new vw suv at Casey vw. The transaction was a nightmare from the get go. From having charges snuck into my contract to being asked to provide documentation that my state of residence is tax exempt (literally information found on google) to being accused of lying about my military service to obtain financing and get taxes waived - you name it. From there it took them over 60 days to transfer the plates they charged me $400 to transfer. When all of this was finally done the car literally began to fall apart at the 1000 mile mark. I’ll spare you the rest of the nightmare but needless to say I was so disappointed with the car that I opted to take the financial hit and trade in my 3 month old vw to buy a Toyota. In the Hampton roads area I find the major dealers - priority and first team and the horrid Casey- to be super gimicky and shove extras down your throat. Checkered flag? Don’t get me started. They are a proudly “haggle free” dealership who prices their vehicles 2-3k higher with as stated no negotiation. Being that I bought A 4Runner - the truck that everyone and their mother owns I didn’t expect negotiations but I at least expect not to be over charged. I chose Charles barker because they weren’t full of gimmicks. They were straight up and honest. One of my favorite things about them - which this sounds small but the opposite is a peeve of mine- they don’t slap dealer stickers on your car like the rest of them. Like anyone ever pulled up behind a Toyota and went “ooooh omg I wonder where they bought that I MUST go to the same place.” No idiots. They google Toyota dealerships and off they go - Charles barker gets this. So I traded in the horrible vw and Charles barker gave me $2,500 more than carmax would- who until now I have yet to have a regular dealer beat. They entertained my walking the entire lot and getting into every random vehicle that caught my eye (sounds minor but that’s a lot of running back and forth for keys for a woman who keeps going “oooh shiney!”) and found me exactly what I wanted. Then the finance manager - instead of shoving add on packages down my throat and not taking no for an answer like Casey- handed me the options explained them and basically was like let me know if you want any of these. No pressure no guilt no sales pitch that’s it. I was happy to choose what I wanted and hand the sheet back. Then he found financing that got me another $1000 off my truck from Toyota. When I explained to him that I was apprehensive to finance outside my own bank for which I already had approved financing (because I like the ease of having all my bills in one place) he took the time to call my bank himself and get all the details of how I could take the financing that got me the extra $1000 and then transfer to my bank and get another $200 PLUS not make a car payment for two months. Unlike any dealership finance manager I’ve dealt with he spent more time finding me money than taking my money. I never thought I would have nothing but good things to say about a dealership but I really can’t say anything bad! Unlike Casey they understood the unique situation and complications of military buying in Virginia but registering out of state. Remember I said it took Casey 2 months to transfer my tags? Well I left Charles barker with MY tags on my new truck. So from Maurice my salesman to Josh the sales manager, to the finance manager Chris, and let’s not forget the title lady that came down to explain the complicated fee process and refund associated with my particular state of legal residency- I can’t say enough good things. I’d like to say I’ll go back for my for my next car but thanks to the money Chris was able to save me I was able to extend my warranty out to 100,000 miles/ 7 years so I’m good for the better part of a decade now. More

How to Properly Sell A Car Ray Aiden at Charles Barker did an excelkent job of selling me a car. I contacted Barker Toyota after finding a used car online. The car had not been cleaned up yet but Ray let me drive it, and take it home for a few hours. Ray told me tgat the car would be cleaned, detailed, and given a thorough mechanical inspection if I bought it. I told Ray that I never bought extended warranties, and that my scheduke was tight (an hour here and there). Ray honored my time constraints, and his word on getting the car checked over and cleaned up. He was flexible, considerate of my time, and conducted business with integrity. More
