While helping my daughter look for a car we contacted dealer online about a vehicle listed and scheduled an appointment to view the vehicle. 2003 Jeep Liberty. When we arrived for our appointment the i dealer online about a vehicle listed and scheduled an appointment to view the vehicle. 2003 Jeep Liberty. When we arrived for our appointment the individual we had made the appointment with was not there so Kay Caldwell helped us instead. After test driving the vehicle we liked it and explained to Kay that my daughter would be trading her vehicle in, 2001 VW Jetta. We explained that she had a small payoff on it and that the addition equity after payoff was to be her down payment. This would be the only down payment as she is a full time student as such no excess funds were available. Kay had the trade in accessed and worked some rough numbers then determined we should run her credit to try to determin a payment. We know my daughter is credit challenged, and after running her through determined that she would need a co-signer. Her grandmother had agreed to do this for her. So we made arraingments for her to come out to fill out the credit application the next day. We scheduled a time and picked Grandmother up the next day and proceeded on our "SECOND" trip to the dealer. We are traveling from Vancouver Wa. to Gresham Ore. for each visit. We proceeded to fill out the paperwork the next day and waited as the credit was processed, and waited, and waited, and waited. All of the time was under the presumption that the original numbers that Kay had provided to us were solid and met my daughters payment needs. After a time the finace manager told us that we should go ahead and go home and wait for a call the next day to determine credit approval. Upon review it was determined that because of the vehicles age that the bank could not finance it to a 60 month period so the payments ended up too high. This is all OK up until now..... my daughter passed on the vehicle and we went on looking at other vehicles at other dealers. The next day she recieved a call from Kay stating that he had gone to another credit manager and was able to get her payments where she needed them. She got excited but I was traveling on business and could not get to the dealer with her for a couple of days. I asked her to confirm that the same trade value was given and determined they must have secured longer terms with a lender or a better interest rate. So our "THIRD" trip to the same dealer, excited to get the vehicle, we filled out the forms, Kay congratulates her on her new car! Finance manager comes to review the terms and as we are reviewing he state "so your putting 2000 dollars down"? We said we are putting down the equity from her trade in. He states that this shows an additional 2000 down in addition to that! I was shocked! I told him you have got to be kidding me!! After all of this you are saying we need an additional 2 grand down. I looked Kay straight in the eyes and told him that in NONE of our dialog had we ever spoke about any money down other than her equity in her car. Multiple times through phone calls and face to face this was confirmed and acknowledged. We were purposely misled into believing one price only to drive out and be given different terms. I belive all in an effort to negotiate additional money from my daughter. Kay gives it up to a misunderstanding, I can assure you there was no misunderstanding. I made it very clear. I am disappointed. I am pursuing this through the BBB as well as other channels. I will do all I can to deter business to this particular dealer as I believe they are not an upstanding operation. Kay was nowhere to be seen when we left the dealership. Surprise! More

That was the best part of my experience at Gresham Toyota. Aaron was good about working with me to come up with the figures I could consider. His calm nature and patience was much appreciated. I can`t say the same for Jose. He started out with a similar demeanor but it caught me off guard when he suddenly took another turn. It began when he brought up the subject of an extended warranty. He was quite pushy and it got to feeling concerning. I wanted to call a trusted mechanic friend of mine to get his input on wether this was a good idea for me. He suddenly accused me of not trusting him and saying that something WILL go wrong with the computer mechanisms in this car I was purchasing. I then got very concerned about what I was buying. He ended up leaving the room abruptly asking if would rather deal with someone else. I said I hadn`t considered that, but that might not be a bad idea under the circumstances. I was feeling very uncomfortable with Jose. To this day he has never apologized for his behavior to me as a customer. I told him that is why car dealerships get such a bad reputaion. I was just trying to make right choices for me as I am a single Mom on a limited income. I was stretching it as it was to buy this car. Aaron came in to ask me what went down. He directed me to Jeff Scott to finish the transaction. Scott offered me a much lower price for the warranty which caused me to take it, although I am still feeling concerned about his honesty as well, since when I asked him if the existing waranty covered computerized parts, he said `No`. The following week, I spoke with Dave at Gresham Toyota Service and asked the same question. His answer was `yes` to the same question. I already am experiencing a sensor problem. The slippery road sensor light had flashed and beeped on several occasions on both dry and wet roads when first put into gear. Also the key sensor light has done the same on occasion. Dave said I would have to bring it in when it is doing it to find out what is wrong. That is hard to do. Anyway, I was sorry that this car buying experience had a damper on it by the time I got to the finance guys. Jose needs to learn some etiquite on working with customers. That is not a way to gain trust. More

Just so you know - two weeks earlier my 1999 camry was totaled while I was inside a coffee shop. That's when I came to Gresham Toyota to get a new better car. I checked the CarFax which was provide by the dealer and found it to be just what I was looking for. I then checked the KBB to find the recommend value for the vehicle. Knowing that Own-A-Car was affiliated with Gresham Toyota I decided to contact Kay Caldwell with whom I had already purchased a vehicle from and found him a pleasure to do business with. I negotiated a price with Kay and asked if the pickup could be delivered to their lot here in Gresham to which he replied “yes”. The following day I meet with Kay and examined the Ford Ranger and found it to be as represented. Kay then introduced me to Jose Escandon, who took care of the financial portion of the deal. Both Kay and Jose were very professional and a pleasure to do business with. The only negative commit I can make is that with the previous purchase and this purchase they sent me on the road with an empty gas tank. More
