Incompetent or Unethical, You Decide Do not bring your vehicle here for service. The service adviser wanted to string me along one repair at a time. Rather than diagnose the entire vehi Do not bring your vehicle here for service. The service adviser wanted to string me along one repair at a time. Rather than diagnose the entire vehicle and provide a comprehensive estimate of the necessary repairs, he insisted that they needed to complete a repair for over $600 before they could tell me what, if anything, else was wrong with the vehicle. Upon completing the $600+ repair, they informed me they found another component that needed to be replaced, and it would cost $600 - $700. Again, they could not assure me that would resolve all the remaining issues. They'd have to "run diagnostics again and see ...." I declined the second repair because I wasn't going down that road with them. I had been assured by the service adviser that the first repair would resolve 75% of the issues with the car, and that was enough for me to get it to someone competent and trustworthy. However, that was a lie. The car was actually worse off when I picked it up. Not only were none of the issues resolved (not one), but there were more fault lights illuminated and none of the gauges worked. I tried resolving the matter with the Director and the Manager of the Service Department, but the best they offered was an opportunity to bring the car back in and spend more money on repairs at a 10% discount. I learned later that the issue I experienced was actually very common with this car, so the service department really should have been able to provide a better estimate. However, the car is also old, so it's hard to ignore the possibility that the service adviser decided to try and build a bill, one authorization at a time, rather than go straight for the $1,500 - $2,000. Avoid this service department. Update: the vehicle has since been seen by a skilled and reputable shop. The first thing they found were two ground wires with enough corrosion to disrupt communication with the modules Grand Prize insisted needed to be replaced. The technician couldn't believe the car left a dealer service department like that. He repaired the ground wires, cleared the fault codes and road tested the vehicle. The issues were resolved for $200 + tax, and no engine control module replacement that Grand Prize insisted needed to be done. More
