Bought a new Honda CR-V. I told the salesman, Jason, that I wanted to pay cash. He said I needed to get financing to get a 'discount' of $1,000 or so. I said OK, but I don't want to have any additional charges. As I left the dealership I was handed my paperwork. Over $10,000 of service contracts was added! I was furious! Still am. Jason lied to me - he allowed all these charges. I asked the service dept: why didn't they charge $20K additionally or $30K. I mean in thirty years or so the car may need service work and customers needs to be able to utilize the prepaid service contracts! it is ridiculous. Typical crappy dealership out to rip off the customer. Avoid this dealership! More
Went to Gillman Honda North to buy a 2023 used Honda Pilot. Salesperson was friendly and went through all the standard rigmarole to get me to finance in-house. I held to my credit union financing until Pilot. Salesperson was friendly and went through all the standard rigmarole to get me to finance in-house. I held to my credit union financing until he brought out his manager who promised they could beat my CU's rates, so out of curiosity, I let them try. Manager came back with a rate that did not match my CU for the number of months I wanted, so I told them no, I'll stick to my CU and requested they send them the purchase order. I was told over the course of the next 24 hours that they were sending the PO but never did, and were not giving me details as to why the holdup. I knew the holdup was to figure out a way to get me to finance in-house, but I wanted to hear from THEM. I finally told them if the CU doesn't have the PO as promised by 5 pm that day, then I was prepared to leave the car where it is and go to a seller who values my time...I got no response to that message. Someone called me hours later about financing (now the 4th person I've talked to) and I repeated that they now have one hour to give me details on the holdup, or send the PO, or I'm done. One hour came and went with no response and no PO, so I went too, to another dealership. I got a call from the original salesperson that night asking what's the status on me purchasing the vehicle from them...! I was prepared for the strategy and games dealerships employ, I know and understand they want to make money just as much as I want to save money. But that is no excuse for not communicating with a customer. If you want me to finance with you, then earn my business. They failed to do that so I will never buy from or recommend anyone to Gillman Honda North. More
10/5 Salesman Kevin. He was absolutely wonderful! My experience at Gilman looking for a car was great and I would like to show appreciate to Kevin for being patient and He was absolutely wonderful! My experience at Gilman looking for a car was great and I would like to show appreciate to Kevin for being patient and working with me during this time. Buying a car is a stressful time but he made it very smooth, and his personality is top notch. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a car. Finance 0/5 (MOE RAFIEI) The reason why I am giving a bad review is to the Finance guy Moe Rafiei. He is one of those guys that have been working there for a long time, probably has seniority and treats customers terribly without any consequences. He deserves a 0/5! He introduced himself and welcomed us in his office. I noticed that I was the main buyer on the application, when I was suppose to be the second. My husband was to be the main applicant. I simply asked why is that. His response was "well aren't you the one that graduated? You should be first." I proceeded to tell him "that's not was explained to us in the front". But ok moving forward. He hands us a paper showing a college graduate APR of 7.9%!!! for 6 years. So I asked him "We were told that there was a special for doing a 3 year finance plan for 2.9%." Moe condescending response back was "Well college graduate is an automatic 7.9%, you don't qualify for 2.9%. Also, the people in the front (the salesman) does not know anything about finance anyway!" This is where I had to draw the line. I felt like he treated me like I was born yesterday. SIR, I graduated with an MBA (so I have a background in FINANCE), probably have way more schooling than him, buying a car and financing is NOT my first rodeo. I told him to take my graduation off (since schooling doesn't seem to make any difference) and redo my financing, I have way over 820 credit score, for you to treat me like someone that just graduated high school. I was livid at how he treated me in his office. Is this how he treats most of his customers who doesn't know anything finance? He's very condescending and will try to outsmart you. He then walks out, and another finance guy comes in. (5/5) Chris Nguyen was a complete 180. He made the finance mishap so much better. He was able to correct the financing part and finish the paperwork smoothly with such a better attitude. Thank you for that! Overall, I would come back to Gillman to purchase another car. I will warn everyone to avoid Moe if possible when you go into the finance office. Get anyone but him! More
Salesman was great. However, I paid for this vehicle in full and the dealer ran my credit in order to accept a personal check. I did not like this. However, I paid for this vehicle in full and the dealer ran my credit in order to accept a personal check. I did not like this. More
Sales tactics are sneaky. I decided to purchase my car at another dealer. In the Service area, I just found out that the rear differential service I did and paid for with them at the 15,000 miles mark actually had some problems. I almost lost the rear differential due to such mishap. I will refrain from using their services again. Update: After an exchange of information about the incident with their Service Director, an agreeable resolution was reached. More
Let the buyer beware when purchasing a used car from Gillman. We purchased a Certified Honda CRV back on August 12th for my son to use up at college in Denton. Less than three months later and 5K mile Gillman. We purchased a Certified Honda CRV back on August 12th for my son to use up at college in Denton. Less than three months later and 5K miles later, it turns out the engine had to be replaced because of a faulty repair done at Gillman. It also turns out that before selling the car to us, back in May Gillman replaced the head gasket but did not disclose that to us. It did not show up on the Car Fax report. What makes things so bad is that the Honda dealership up in Denton asked for all the service records for the car, and the records that Gillman provided us did not have the head gasket replacement. However, when Honda corporate got involved to assess whether they would replace the engine it came out that the head gasket was replaced, and not done correctly which is why the engine was blown just a short time later. This was the last in a series of poor service that I blame on management. Initially, they told us they buying a certified Honda was better than purchasing a "regular" Honda, but when we looked over the car, we found that the passenger front seatbelt was torn, somehow they missed this on safety check, they replaced the seatbelt but blamed the homeless people for tearing the seatbelt.. I guess there is no security at Gillman. Next, they were late in getting us our plates. They sat on the paperwork for the registration because they were down a person who handles that function. They told me I should go down to the "taxation office" to get an extension, but not to worry they would reimburse me for the fees. When I explained that the car was in Denton, and that neither my son or I could take a day off of work to handle an issue that the were supposed to take care of, especially since there was a $73 that they charged for this service. They finally, the next day got our license plates after I had to talk to various managers and finance folks. What makes all of this so sad, is that the frontline staff at Gillman are incredible. But the management from the GM at Honda Gillman and the GM who manages all Gillman properties leaves alot to be desired. According to them, I should be thankful that Honda is replacing the engine, although that was part of the warranty. So I should be thankful that Corporate Honda is doing what they are liable for. So like i said at the beginning, Buyer Beware. There are enough Honda dealerships and places to buy used cars that I will be not dealing with any Gillman dealerships in the future. Daryl Waterwall may not care about losing 1 customer, which is actually sad since I buy new cars routinely, and have two more kids that will be going off to college in a year and then a year after that, that will need cars. Sorry, Daryl Waterwall and Gillman, you lost out big time! More
