I could write a book about this transaction, but I will try to be concise. There were both good and bad circumstances surrounding this transaction, so I am going to give them a 3 (average), though I hope try to be concise. There were both good and bad circumstances surrounding this transaction, so I am going to give them a 3 (average), though I hope that some of the bad experiences we had are not how they typically go about doing business. The Bad: A. My wife was at the dealership for nearly 4 hours picking up the vehicle (no financing involved, we paid by check). Even after the nearly 4 hour ordeal, there were still errors and/or missing paperwork. B. We were originally told that the documents could be processed electronically through DocuSign, allowing both of us to review the documents placed on the title. This didn’t happen, even though DocuSign is legal in all 50 states regardless of location. C. Three weeks after the check cleared, the finance employee had yet to send the paperwork to DMV Nationwide to register the vehicle. At this point, the temporary plate we have is about to expire. D. On multiple occasions, and by multiple employees, we were told that the law in Florida requires the dealer to file for title and registration. These employees are misinformed about what the law actually says, so it felt like we were being lied to. The Good: A. The inventory manager was able to find a vehicle for us that met our requirements (except color). This Tacoma was originally destined for Atlanta, so they had to facilitate some transactions within their district in order to acquire it. B. The original price for the vehicle was honored, even though somewhere along the line an additional feature (floor mats) was added. This never came up in discussion, which is noted and appreciated. C. The title and registration issue was resolved within a reasonable amount of time once discovered. The fees are going to be refunded and we will register the vehicle ourselves. This also resolves the DocuSign issue as we can now register the vehicle in both our names and get the correct license plate type. A second temporary plate is being sent to bridge the gap. Opportunities for improvement: 1. Set goals and measure the length of time a customer waits to close a purchase transaction. Based on the 3 other Toyotas we have purchased from 3 different dealerships over the years, my expectation is ½ hour or less. All 3 of these other transactions were unremarkable; we paid the dealer via personal check and either received the title (when out of state) or the dealer registered the vehicle for us (in-state). Never had a problem with the temporary plate expiring. 2. Provide the customer with the opportunity to save money on taxes and fees by offering form 84061 “Declaration Affidavit for a Motor Vehicle which will be Titled and Registered in Another State”. Had this been done for us at the point of sale, I am sure I would have scored the dealership at least a 4 on the review. The salesman’s score would have been higher as well. 3. Take this as an opportunity to further train your staff on the legal requirements of doing business in the State of Florida, specifically statute 319.23(6)(a) in its entirety. In order to close the review, they make you select yes or no "Would you recommend this dealership". I selected no, but if the dealership implements the improvements I recommended, then I think it would be ok to use them. In the end of the day, it is their business to run as they see fit, and they can either just sweep this review under the rug and maintain the status quo, or take actions that will improve the customer experience.
