Of course, you have all heard the Latin Warning: “Let the Buyer Beware!” Nope, when you decide to deal with these folks, at least in Phila. “LET THE SELLER BEWARE” I would suggest delivering your classic in person in order to get a signed agree that they will accept your classic car. I had described the condition of my 31-year-old car. The car had set for 5 yrs. Some small dents in fender tear in arm rest. After being told that the car needs to run had it towed to my shop. Had the gas tank drained, changed oil calipers and brake pads replaced and installed a new battery. $1,900 but not a bad investment to bring the car up to standards. After the car was delivered, I received a very irate call from the Philly. Manager telling me that the car was not the type of vehicle that they would touch. Paint terrible with specks. (I am the original owner; car garaged no accidents) It even had a hole in the Driver side carpet. (Yep there was in fact a hole but it was in the mat.) I made the mistake of not throwing the floor mat away. And there was an oil leak somewhere. (True). They simply did not want that kind of car. Well that decision is of course their absolute right. When I asked, what happens now I was told that they would send the car back. Not quite an accurate statement. They simply refused the vehicle. Ah. Now I am told by the Transport “Dispatch” (we’ll talk about that later) that the car is still on the shipper’s truck at their lot in De. Incurring “Expenses” Not too bad. Hook up delivered to their lot. Hook back up returned to me. Just $963.00. Oh, by the way, it only cost $500 to get the car up there by the same carrier. Oh! Almost forgot, please be sure that when shipping your classic that you understand with whom you are dealing. In my case it wasn’t the actual shipper but a dispatcher who earns a nice commission. I have no problem with this but you should know with whom your Classic with. Let the Seller Beware, A. V. More
I find that this company has a very bad reputation. They lie and cheat their customers. I know because I just got cheated by their Scottsdale AZ branch They stated that the car I purchased was in great con lie and cheat their customers. I know because I just got cheated by their Scottsdale AZ branch They stated that the car I purchased was in great condition That was not the case. It's costing me over $3000.00 to get it to the point to be safe on the road. Tim Johnson said he would look at the check in sheet to see what was listed. Then he said after I called him that they do not check them over. He lied one of those times. I have since found many complaints that have not really been resolved. They hide behind their as is statement to lie about the cars they sell More

Looks like I am just one of hundreds of buyers and sellers who have had the same experience with Gateway. I wish that I would have read these reviews prior to wasting my time and money at Gateway. T sellers who have had the same experience with Gateway. I wish that I would have read these reviews prior to wasting my time and money at Gateway. They are very nice, pleasant people who will take you for everything that they can. They misrepresent the vehicle and hide behind their "As-Is" clause. When something goes wrong, they state that they are simply an advertiser, with no responsibility or liability. When you talk to them on the phone, they represent themselves as a sales person. Which is it? Hopefully the Better Business Bureau will be asking the same question. I purchased a 1974 Formula 455 Firebird that immediately needed almost $3,000 in transmission repairs. The mechanic that rebuilt my transmission said that there was leak stop in the transmission fluid, so this, along with the puddle of transmission fluid on the floor of the transport, the bill of lading noting the transmission condition when shipped, and the fact that the vehicle wouldn't go into park was clear evidence that the condition of the transmission was known prior to the sale. Additionally, when I went to register it, the DMV couldn't confirm whether it was currently registered in California or Georgia and it also had over $1,200 in past DMV fees. I still haven't been able to complete the DMV registration process. Overall I found the following issues when the car arrived: Transmission would not go into park and was leaking significant fluid Driver’s side interior door handle didn't work Horn did not work Reverse lights did not work Radio did not work Heat/AC/Vent didn't blow at all in any setting Speedometer did not work Tachometer did not work Passenger female seat belt receiver missing Windshield wipers did not work None of these items were disclosed to me during our conversations or in the description of the vehicle. I have never seen a business model like Gateway’s. They seem to have been able to carve out a niche that allows them to profit from the sale of other people’s products without taking responsibility whatsoever for what they are selling. They are essentially a glorified parking spot for used vehicles. This is the first review of any purchase that I have ever written. I would absolutely never purchase another vehicle from Gateway Classic Cars. More
They up charge what you want by 20% tell you it’s a buyers premium. Your car is then too overpriced to sell and they hold the car hostage to get 12% buyout fee back. Terrible dealership. untruthful and deceitful sales people. In June of 2019, I signed a contract and put a deposit on a 1966 Ford Tbird, with the agreement the owner would make certain repairs. Gateway continue In June of 2019, I signed a contract and put a deposit on a 1966 Ford Tbird, with the agreement the owner would make certain repairs. Gateway continued to advertise the car, but told me they had no control over that, but there was a "Deposit hold" on the car and it would not be shown. Given several excuses and after months of my inquiries as to when I would get the car, I found out they sold it to someone else who didn't require the repairs. Isn't this illegal? When I complained to the Corporate office, I received conflicting stories. Much later, Gateway finally returned my deposit falsely stating I didn't want the car. When I asked where they got that information from, whom did I allegedly make that statement to, etc., they ceased any and all contact with me. It is also my understanding the architect of this deal was released due to this transaction. Gateway has a nice selection of vehicles, but be VERY cautious when dealing with these people. More
Seller Beware!!!!!!! After having my mint condition, classic Mustang for a year with no sale, I decided to remove it from their Dearborn, MI showroom. When the transport After having my mint condition, classic Mustang for a year with no sale, I decided to remove it from their Dearborn, MI showroom. When the transport company brought it back, there were paint chips on the hood and someone at Gateway broke off the antenna on the car. After admitting to the damage, Zac and Chelsea at this location, both told me to send them the invoice and they would reimburse me for my costs. Now I am getting the runaround. I doubt if they are going to pay for the damage to my classic. Avoid using this company at all costs. They do not deliver on the sale or the service you are promised. Also, once I told them that I would be removing the car from their facility, they suddenly came up with a lowball offer. I think the company tries to purchase some vehicles for themselves at a low ball amount to sell. By the way--I sold the car for $15,000.00 more than their offer with no commission!!! AVOID THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! More

Good car, minor issues, listing issues, timely resolution I bought a 1980 Chevy Z28 sight unseen and had it shipped to me. They have lots of pictures to see and a good video. I worked with Nic Thom out of the Chicago showroom. The listing for the car said it had "cold A/C" which in fact it never had A/C even installed from the factory. I told them I would need $1500 back to avoid the courts, they offered $1,000, I then said $2,000 and we agreed on the $1,500 in a weeks time. Error on their listing but they resolved the issue with me receiving $1,500 back. The car had a few problems that I feel should have been noted, like the wiper switch not working, the heater switch stuck, the clock not working, and the window seal dry rotted. Overall though, it is a great car. Runs great looks great with some minor issues. It is a 40 year old car after all. They could do a better job listing the cars good attributes as well as its faults. Overall though I'd buy another from them, but would advise having a mechanic looking at it or going there in person to see the car. More
