Wrong Diagnosis and told me that my engine was seized and the car was not inspected thoroughly. Turned out the starter was stuck on the flywheel which is why it would not crank. Drove 40 minutes to test drive a used car they had for sale after being told by phone salesperson it was the only way to negotiate on the car. Once getting there we were allowed to start the car but not sale after being told by phone salesperson it was the only way to negotiate on the car. Once getting there we were allowed to start the car but not drive it unless we went inside and agreed upon the price. The salesperson stated they did not let “high line” cars out for a test drive. The car was in the mid 60,000. I said can we at least have your manager drive us in it, and he went and asked and he said no, not unless we agreed upon the price first. While this car is kind of expensive, it would be our least expensive car, we were qualified to buy the car, I’m in my mid 50’s and just drove 40 minutes - clearly not looking for a joy ride in a “high line” car. I said if we cant drive it we have to leave and he said “ok”. I was so baffled that I called dealership sales manager on the drive home and said I don’t understand. He said “well you told the salesperson it was not your favorite color, so why would you want to drive it anyway”. It was yellow which was not our first pick, but it did not preclude us or our interest. Wasted an hour and a half on a Sunday. Who buys a used car and then test drives it after - that’s Gateway’s policy. More
