I started with letting Mike know that we had recently filed a personal bankruptcy and did not want to waste his time if financing was not going to be an option. This did not discourage him in the least as he began structuring an experience for my wife and I that was respectful, enjoyable and absolutely without pressure. His first and foremost concern was that we chose a vehicle that would fit all of our needs. It has been my experience that a lot of sales people (not professionals) would have pushed us and been aggressive in trying to "close the deal" especially after about 4 hours or more. Mike did neither. What he did do however was, answer all of our questions in a manner that assured us he was listening and understood our concerns and positions and was never condescending. Overall it was a very good experience and I would send any friend of mine that was in the market for a car to see Mike. Last but not least we are both thrilled with our new 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The fuel savings alone will more than pay the monthly payment and I love the hands free Bluetooth cell phone linking feature! More
I really enjoyed dealing with the people at this dealership. They were very patient from start to finish. This is when he really impressed me, he didn't push us to buy or make us feel uncomfortable like most sales guys do. He just laid back and let us decide. Then he worked hard to get us a fair deal on the car we wanted. I can't say anything negative about my experience at this location at all. I would recommend to friends or family anytime. More

As you might guess from my signature line, I’ve done this a few times! I’ve not only purchased more than 20 personal vehicles but have purchased hundreds of vehicles from “standard” to police cars and work trucks to custom $1M fire trucks over the last 30+ years. I puchased a used 2008 Sonata Hyundai from Dennis Ford on 4/12/2012. Dennis was a salesman I was comfortable working with. Dennis had the vehicle prepped for me, and ready to drive away upon my arrival Thursday pm. The car was immaculate and detailed to my standards. I would recommend anyone to work with Dennis whether buying new or used. I also worked briefly with Mike Wallace who explained the licensing/plate policy in Kentucky. He answered all of my questions and thanked me for being a Gates customer. The new dealership there is spacious, well decorated and functionable. I appreciated working with this dealership out away from the traffic where there is plenty of space to inspect the cars and test drive. The staff at Gates Hyundai was very friendly and helpful, but Dennis stood out above them all. I did the majority of my negotiations via telephone and email, and Dennis made the entire process very easy and answered all of my emails very quickly. Before I arrived at the dealership, Dennis did almost all of the haggling with the sales manager and got me a great deal and top dollar for my trade-in. He never pressured me and was very patient with me, which was much appreciated since I must have changed my mind a dozen times on which vehicle to purchase. When I finally arrived at the dealership, the transaction went very smoothly and in no time at all I was driving home in my beautiful 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Although it will be awhile before I need another vehicle, I will certainly recommend Gates Hyundai of Richmond, especially Dennis Ford, to all of my family and friends! More
Love this dealership group! I have bought two Toyotas from their sister store and now a New Sonata. I have to pass other dealerships closer to me and drive an additional 20 miles. As in the pass I'm sure the service experience will be just as great. Yes I drive out of my way for the service too. I know I get a fair price there too. I just met Drew and Mike and they were great. My father bought his first new car at the age of 80, and they treated him like he was the king! I'll return after my 10 year old sequoia with 183000 miles wears out. Could be another 5 years! More
The service is by far really great here! They go way beyond their way to make you feel welcome and to fix any problems with your car! Everyone at Gates was wonderful to work with. I usually don't like going to car dealerships because I always feel that they try to pressure me into buying a car that is out of my budget and I end up feelin don't like going to car dealerships because I always feel that they try to pressure me into buying a car that is out of my budget and I end up feeling like I settled on a lesser car and end up with buyers remorse. That was not the case at all when I worked with Mike and everyone at Gates. Mike knew my budget and what kind of features that I was looking for in a vehicle and he did a great job about being honest with me about which cars would fir in my budget and I really felt like he had everyone else did everything they could to help me. More
