Shady tactics to get customers I'll start off by saying that the salesmen are not to be blamed, rather the management and PR and marketing. I received a flyer in the mail with information on a sale they are having. The flyer also had prizes to win if the scratch off number matched the prize. My number matched a riding lawn mower. There was fine print that said to check the pin on the flyer on a website or call some 800 number. Not wanting to give my phone number to some random data company, I took my flyer into the dealership. The salesman said my pin did not match the numbers on the poster on site, so my prize was 2 scratch off lottery tickets. Then he tried to sell me a car. In what universe would I buy a car from a dealer that uses bait and switch tactics? I declined and left, and filed a complaint with the FTC. Sure, no one actually expects to win those prizes, but the wording on the flyer was phrased just well enough that I wanted to see how they would wiggle out of it. Simply by pointing to the fine print, which was dubious at best, was he able to avoid giving me a partner mower. If this is how they have to get customers instead of relying on actual customer relations and great service, save yourself some grief and buy somewhere else. More
