When I have proof there is a real problem and they agreed, the issue has gotten worst. Brake failure is a serious problem. Fremont Toyota is not accepting responsibly for their incompetent mechanics wants to charge me $864. This is in addition to $460 of work already done with Fremont Toyota on July 6th, 2010. From my perspective, my car was running fine when I brought it in on July 6th. I thought I should get a tune-up and perhaps replace the timing belt since it's at 96K miles. After my tune-up, the bill was $460.15. Fremont Toyota recommended a multi-point inspection, replace air filter element, replace cabin air filter, and replace rear brake pad/shoes and resurface rotors/drums. The service person told me everything else looks good. Shortly after the service, I noticed the car doesn't drive the same. I can't quite place the problem. The engine seemed louder and rougher. My car engine was not quite like before. I thought I imagined it. As time passed, the engine sounded more and more labored. When I stepped on the gas, the car had a pull like dragging something. The engine revved at 2500 RPM almost touching 3000 RPM mark. This is a visible sign and proof something is wrong. At the same time, I noticed there oil leaks on my driveway. I parked my car on the road after the repair and didn't notice the oil leak until I park on the driveway recently. I brought the car to Fremont Toyota at 7am and showed them the oil stained paper to proof there is an oil leak. I also described the revving engine and rough sounds. At 11am I received a call from the Assistant Service Manager, Mingo Galleto, that indeed the oil gasket was broken by the technician when he changed the oil. They replaced the gasket free of charge, but there is nothing else wrong with the car. He said he even test drove it and didn't hear or feel problems with the car. He assured me that he just drove a similar year and model, Camry 2004, and it sounded the same. I went to the shop and Mingo rode with me for a test drive at around 1:30pm. We got on 880 and when I hit around 50 mph the engine sound louder. As I hit 60mph my steering wheel shakes slightly. At this point Mingo assured me that my tires are not balanced. At 70 mph, my car started to drag when I accelerated. The car was revving close to 3000 rpm as I described to him in the morning. He confirmed this is abnormal and it's a problem. We got off the next exit and headed back to Fremont Toyota on Auto Mall. When we got to Costco, just a block or so from Toyota, we smell something coming from the car. When we pulled over, we saw smoke coming from the driver-side front wheel. Mingo told me the brakes are overheating. He drove the car back to the shop after the brakes cooled to evaluate the problem. I got a call from Mingo at 2:03pm. He said the brake’s caliper broke. The caliper, brake pads and the rotors has to be replaced totaling $1140 dollars. Because I was inconvenienced, so they will give me a discount for $864.00. He said he can use aftermarket parts, non-Toyota parts, and it will be $697. To me it is unacceptable to ask me to pay for the whole braking system. Toyota should take responsibility because of faulty diagnosis (twice!) and the technician not doing a proper job to service the car. I spoke with Bill Martin, Fremont Toyota Service Manager, at 5:51pm. He argued the following points: 1) The service on July 6th did nothing to the front brakes. They inspected the front brakes as part of the service and there was nothing wrong. My contention is the problem only appeared after I had done the service. Though he claimed the technician did nothing to the front brakes, the broken gasket is an indication of the lack of quality and detail to their work. As a consumer with no mechanical knowledge, I have no idea what parts were removed for inspection and not properly replaced. 2) Caliper can fail anytime. Bill Martin pointed out even if Toyota replaced the front brakes pad, broken calipers are not their responsibility. My front brakes pad were replaced by another shop a long time ago. I never had problems with them. Bill Martin and Mingo both said caliper breakage is irrelevant to the brake pad change yet they insist I should talk to the other shop. The caliper were not replaced, it is an original factory part. 3) Toyota did not properly inspected the car when it was dropped of this morning even after I told them of the problem. Bill Martin insisted I didn't specify it is a brake problem, therefore, they did not inspect the brake this morning and not liable for the brake problems. From my description, Mingo noted in the written order, revving issue at 60-70 rpm and rough engine sounds. They must of inspected the car for something. I had no way of knowing the brakes were failing and specifically the caliper broke. There is no way for me to insist they inspect the front brakes. Mingo told me he test drove it and there is nothing wrong with the car. They did not do due diligence to inspect the car until I proofed there was a problem. My family and I could be seriously injured if the brakes locked up while driving on the freeway. This could have been a dangerous situation and not just a financial concern. More
THROUGHOUT MY VISIT TO FREMONT TOYOTA SERVICES,ONE OF THE EMPLOYEES DIDN'T GIVE MY THE EXACT INFORMATION ABOUT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ABOUT TO EXPIRE, THAT WAS THE FIRST LIE. THAT'S THE THIRD LIE. I SPOKE WITH HIS MANAGER AND EVERYTHING CAME OUT THAT THEY DID REPLACE THE SHOCKS IN THE BACK OF THE DOOR WITH THE INCORRECT ONES. AND ADMITTED THAT THEY WERE THE ONES TO CAUSE THE DAMAGE IN MY VEHICLE. I TOLD THE MANAGER THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO DEAL WITH THE SERVICE GUY THAT WAS ATTENDING ME AT FIRST AND THE MANAGER OFFERED THAT HE COULD ASSIST ME THOUGH OUT MY SERVICES OF MY VEHICLE. THEY WERE GOING TO CHECK A LEAK IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEY WOULD CONTACT ME WHEN THEIR JOB IS COMPLETED. IT TOOK THEM ABOUT TWO WEEKS. I ONLY GOT THREE CALLS WITHIN THE TIME SPAND. THEY WERE NICE TO PROVIDE US WITH A VEHICLE ONLY TO DEMAND BACK THEIR VEHICLE BEFORE WE PICKED UP OUR VEHICLE. EVEN, THEY WENT TO MY OFFICE TO PICK UP THE RENTAL CAR. i am a shop owner. recently my customer with a 2002 rav4 had a transmission problem. i perform a test drive, and whenever i shifted from P-R, the transission would slam into gear and i would get harsh shif had a transmission problem. i perform a test drive, and whenever i shifted from P-R, the transission would slam into gear and i would get harsh shifting. i perform my checkout and came to the conclusion she needed an automatic transmission right after i drained the transmission pan and found metal shavings. did my research and found that the best way was to go with a toyota rebuilt with the 12 months unlimited mile warrany. installed the transmssion, started the vehicle and i would notice just shifting from P-R that the rebuilt transmission i installed slammed into gear more harsh than my old one. at this point, i havent put any miles on the vehicle just sitting in my shop and going from P-R. called FREMONT TOYOTA and told them the problem. i asked them if they could send me another transmission because i got a bad rebuilt unit, and was told any warranty work, they have to checkout first. got the car to them, few days passed. steve (service advisor) called me and told me that because i replaced the automatic transmission without changing the ecu also, that the ecu caused the transmission to go bad. i told him he was full of s..t. i said how can a ecu cause a transmission to go bad just from shifting it from P-R with no miles on it. i never even let the vehicle leave the shop, nor has the customer driven it yet. i told him that we dont live in a perfect world and it is possible for me to have gotten a bad unit. he stuck with his findings from his mechanic and told me that the warranty was void because the ecu was not replaced and my customer had to buy another transmission. wat i didnt tell him was that why didnt toyota parts notify me of the ecu's burning out these transmission if they are such a problem. ive been working on cars for over 15 yrs and not once have i have seen this problem or heard such a thing from this service advisor. he agreed the transmission was bad, but stuck with the ecu being the culprit. we spoke over the phone and still nothing is resolved. my next step is to call TOYOTA CORP. and the BBB if need be. when i delivered the car, just watching this service advisor at work made me wonder about this person. it seemed like he had no clue of what is going on around him. no wonder this FREMONT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP has such BAD CUSTOMER RATING. O, AND YES, THE MAJORITY OF MY CUSTOMERS DO TELL ME OF THE SAME EXPERIENCES AS I HAVE DEALT WITH AND THAT IS WHY THEY BRING THEIR TOYOTA'S TO MY SHOP....VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!THIS ALSO GOES FOR THERE SALES DEPT. TO AS TOLD BY MY CUSTOMERS!!!!AVOID FREMONT TOYOTA AT ALL COST!!!! More
I made a mistake of buying prepaid maintenance. There is a difference in what they claim as the standard service and what the prepaid maintenance provides, so it is not worth it. Additionally, what is suppo a difference in what they claim as the standard service and what the prepaid maintenance provides, so it is not worth it. Additionally, what is supposed to be done with prepaid service was also not done. I was told that I need to pay for services which is supposed to be covered. I was also told to perform "recommended" services which were unnecessary. When I got the car back, I was told that there was something else that was wrong with the car and I had to buy additional services. I had checked it a couple of weeks back and also from the nature of the damage it was clear that this would not happen during normal use of the car. More
