So far, so 'not-so-good'. Sandy, the internet manager is responsive and pleasant - good marks there. Mike Q, the sales person who showed me the car was pleasant and appropriate. BUT - he does not return calls, and I haven't even bought the car yet! I made a deposit but I am thinking of just going elsewhere. If they can't follow up before the sale, imagine how much service I will get afterwards! More
I contacted five CNJ dealers via internet to test-drive a Sonata Hybrid when they first were on sale stating I wanted best price and was ready to buy that day. I had a nasty experience with Davis Hyundai (ch Sonata Hybrid when they first were on sale stating I wanted best price and was ready to buy that day. I had a nasty experience with Davis Hyundai (check out their better business bureau rating--it fits!) robo-calling me and chose to end my association with them before even walking in the door. I knew to avoid Brad Benson (their better business bureau rating is equally scary) with a ten foot pole. I received a quote from Flemington that was $100 below MSRP and no quotes from a PA dealer and another in NJ. I received a quote from Freehold that mentioned a number of possible discounts but wasn't sure I qualified for any of them. I called Freehold and Sandy picked up the phone and stated I should call her back within an hour of my arrival time to make sure the car hadn't sold. It hadn't and so I test drove it and liked it well enough to negotiate a price on one of the color I sought. Sandy was warm, funny, and made a great first impression. I was surprised though that she would not be the salesperson. She introduced me to Bob who was new on the job. He was ok, but clearly did not know the car's unique features. As price negotiations went on, Sales Manager Laura was the heavy negotiator. I had asked Sandy at one point if the car window etching was required by the state of NJ, pretty sure that it wasn't. She said point blank it was. I left it at that and walked out with a pretty decent price well below MSRP as I negotiated from the dealer cost figure up. It took several weeks to order the car I wanted and Laura was great about making sure it came in prior to the deadline when I needed it. She also knocked $100 off the dealer glass etching price when we wrote up the final bill, as I had done my homework with the DMV and found out it was not mandatory in NJ (and on their sales contract--not the order "contract" it clearly states it is optional). I also questioned the $500 doc fee and found that excessive. Other than that, and really bad phones/people who answer the phones, I thought the price was fair and the deal ok. But watch the form they write the "order" up on--it's not the same as the sales contract and in buying nine new cars, it's the first time I've ever not had a copy of the original sales contact going home. The funniest part was finishing up the sale with the closer, Lorenzo, who was fine other than he ends every sentence with....."my friend." I'm your customer! That made me laugh. Considering all the CNJ better business bureau rankings for Hyundai dealers are really bad, I did ok, but buyer beware. I did send an email to Hyundai corporate asking why CNJ Hyundai dealers have such bad better business bureau ratings, but I never received a response. More
Would absolutly NOT recommend Freehold Hyuandi. I went with my gut and didn't even try to negociate with the sales manager after wasting over an hour there. They wouldn't give me a straight answer so I le with my gut and didn't even try to negociate with the sales manager after wasting over an hour there. They wouldn't give me a straight answer so I left, went home and phoned Lester Glen in Toms River. They are honest and provided me with all numbers via phone before going down there. I had no surprises when signing the paperwork and they even delivered the car to my home the next morning! It's worth the drive. An overall EXCELLENT experience with Lester Glen! Shame on you Freehold Hyuandi. More
I was looking for a used car for my son and on Thursday, April 28th, I saw a 2003 Santa Fe on the Freehold Hyundai website, which had a "Make an Offer" link. I did some research and made an offer of $4,750. April 28th, I saw a 2003 Santa Fe on the Freehold Hyundai website, which had a "Make an Offer" link. I did some research and made an offer of $4,750. I then received an email stating they were considering my offer, followed by a 2nd telling me to come in to see the car. Before doing so I called and spoke with sales manager Aaron Brown, and explained I needed to confirm the price before I came in because I had a limited budget, and he said that if I made a offer and they asked me to come in, that meant my offer was accepted. That evening I met with Aaron and a salesman, Andrew Lawrence. I drove the car, and the next day, April 29th, my husband went and drove the car. We were interested in buying it but there were some issues, and I went back to the dealer on April 30th to talk to Andrew about it, and he said I could take the car to a mechanic. I asked Andrew to confirm the price before I went through the expense of taking the car to my mechanic, and he went into an office and spoke with another manager who said that if I made an offer and they kept having me come back, that meant they were accepting my offer or something close to it. On Monday, May 2nd, my husband drove the car to a mechanic, had it inspected, and we decided to buy it. When they discussed price, Aaron said that the price of the car was $6950, and insisted that I offered $6950. My husband called me from the dealer and i spoke to Aaron who denied he ever told me that my offer was accepted. He said he didn't even know what what my offer was and that he doesn't look up offers because he is the sales dept, not the internet dept. The salesperson, Andrew, admitted that I never offered $6950. Apparently this was the sticker price and Andrew assumed I offered it. He also admitted that the other manager he spoke with on April 30th not Aaron) told him they were accepting my offer. My husband asked them to for a copy of the offer I submitted, to see whether it was $4750 or $6950, and they responded that they could not find it. I do not have a copy of my offer because it was submitted to them by keying it in to their website, not sent by email. They offered to come down to $6500, which was not in my budget, and refused to refund me the $92 I spent having the car inspected. It is inconceivable that no one confirmed what my actual offer was. The staff was careless in handling this matter, to my detriment, and instead of admitting they had made an error in the way the potential sale was handled, they made false statements about what happened. Potential customers need to know that this dealarship is not conscientious or honest. More
FRAUD ALERT!!! Every stereotype you could ever imagine FRAUD ALERT!!! Every stereotype you could ever imagine about car salesmen proves true at this shady dealership. Let’s start with the internet qu FRAUD ALERT!!! Every stereotype you could ever imagine about car salesmen proves true at this shady dealership. Let’s start with the internet quote. We began our interaction with Freehold Hyundai with a request for an online quote. The quote came back quickly and was fairly reasonable—about $2800 below sticker price. Based on the quote, we scheduled an appointment to test drive the vehicle. At that time, we began to negotiate with the manager and got another $700 off the internet quote; the price included freight. We indicated we needed to think about it and he indicated that there was more wiggle room on the price. He directed me to speak directly with the salesman whenever I was ready to negotiate further. He indicated that although they didn’t have the car on the lot, they could get it in a day or two. Although we asked, they refused to give us the quote in writing. In retrospect, a red flag. I called the salesmen the next day and left a message. No returned phone call. Then I called the day after that and left another message. No returned phone call. Then I called the manager later that day and left a message. No returned phone call. The following day I called the general number and refused to get off the phone until they put the manager on. He finally came to the phone, reiterated the price, and encouraged me to come in. That night we went back to the Freehold Hyundai to negotiate further. At first, they denied having given us the price they gave us. Then after we went through the conversation note by note, they acknowledged the price. However, they refused to negotiate any further, despite what they’d said earlier. “Ok,” we said, “we’ll take it at that price” The salesman agreed and began writing it up. Then he said he had to speak to a different manager, because the original manager wasn’t there. This manager refused to honor the agreed upon price. In fact, she refused to sell the car for any amount below sticker price. We left the dealership outraged and committed to speaking with the original manager again. We left several messages which he neglected to return. One time, we called the general number, got him on the phone, he said he’d call back in a few minutes and didn’t call for two days. Finally, we showed up at the dealership on a day we knew he was working. He eventually acknowledged his quote, but said that it was “just a ballpark” estimate. In fact, the price would be the original internet quote, $700 above what we had discussed. We knew we were being scammed, but wanted the car, so we agreed to the extra $700 and the manager began writing up the sale. As he did so, he told us that the price did not include freight, an extra $750 which directly contradicted what he had originally showed us on the estimate. (This is the written estimate that they drew up, but refused to give us a copy of.) And, he added, the internet quote assumed that we qualified for certain rebates that no one on the planet would qualify for. (One criterion—the owner loyalty rebate—didn’t apply to us because even though we presently own a Santa Fe which we bought new from the dealer, you don’t get the discount unless you purchased a Hyundai from them within the last 6 months!) Therefore, $1,500 more would have to be added to the price. So now, we’re right back up knocking on the door of sticker price. When we informed the manager that we would be informing Hyundai corporate of the fraudulent, bait and switch, sleaze tactics that they had been using, they couldn’t have cared less. As the manager said, “This is the way we do quotes at Freehold Hyundai. I can’t speak for how other dealerships work.” That pretty much sums it up. And unless you enjoy deceptive tactics, empty promises, and aggravation, STAY AWAY from Freehold Hyundai! More

We were greeted at the door by Mike Q who was our salesman. He was friendly and courteous and very knowledgable about the Sonata (our vehicle of choice) and the various trim levels. We intended just salesman. He was friendly and courteous and very knowledgable about the Sonata (our vehicle of choice) and the various trim levels. We intended just to look and price shop at other dealers. However, the price we negotiated was good enough that we decided to buy from Freehold Hyundai based not solely upon price, but the friendly efficient attitude of Mike Q. Not only were we able to complete the transaction, but the dealer was able to prep the car and deliver it to us that same day. This was a very pleasant surprise given that we have never bought a vehicle and taken it home in one day before. The transaction was completed with Lorenzo, the financial manager who was equally friendly and knowledgable. The paperwork was completed efficiently and quickly. If anyone thnks that buying a car has to be stressful, go to Freehold Hyundai for a surprise. Martin and Wendy Rahn More
