Low pressure approach by sales towards customers in making decisions about purchases. Not because Toyota as a brand sells it's self. Probably more like the way Fred Anderson taught his people to behave making decisions about purchases. Not because Toyota as a brand sells it's self. We were looking for a specific color, trim level, and interior color - with minimal 'add-ons'. Rather than attempting to convince us to purchase something already on the lot, they were able to obtain exactly what we were looking for, for the price as agreed upon, and delivered in about 3 weeks from the time we put down our deposit. Matt Gladwell was a pleasure to work with and the process was quick and smooth. Wendy in "Internet Sales" was our first point of contact, and she deserves credit for her quick response and getting back to us with precisely what we asked for. More

For anyone concerned, considering or questioning the Family Plan, read this in entirety: I took my 2022 Camry in for my 30,000 mile service on 4/2/24. I have the Family Plan, which is advertised as "li Family Plan, read this in entirety: I took my 2022 Camry in for my 30,000 mile service on 4/2/24. I have the Family Plan, which is advertised as "lifetime oil changes" and tire rotations. So far I have not been charged anything at all. Today I was quoted $178 for my 30,000 mile service. Only difference? Adding a RECOMMENDED engine air filter and cabin air filter to the car. My advisor was Elizabeth and I spoke to her about my concern with the price and how it didn't make any sense at all. I was told that the family plan does cover the oil changes and tire rotations, but it doesn't cover additional services. I would have to pay out of pocket for additional services. Asking to do it without additional services I was then told in order to keep the family plan, which I paid over $700 for, I HAVE to purchase the additional services they recommend or else my ENTIRE FAMILY PLAN IS VOID. So she said that since I am not doing the RECOMMENDED air cabin filter change, then I have to pay out of pocket for the oil change.Voided for not taking filters? Are you serious? I asked why specifically the filters are required and I was told it was part of Toyota's service interval. I get that then, fully fine to recommend changing it if that's the interval Toyota recommends it. But what I don't get is why is purchasing services at RECOMMENDED intervals REQUIRED to keep my Family Plan? I pressed about my concern and frustration but Elizabeth wasn't helpful at all in escalating or dissuading my concern and not presenting great service. So if I am not paying for oil changes and tire rotations that means I am solely paying for the filters and labor. The labor rate for a 30,000 mile service is 0.9 hours. I also know that a 10,000 mile service; an oil change and tire rotation is 0.6 hours. That means I am paying for 0.3 hours of labor and 2 filters for a 30,000 mile service. From similar dealerships I know the hourly labor rate is around $150/hour. Let's say Toyota of Charleston's is $175/hour to play it safe. So I'm paying roughly $50 in labor alone for the 30,000 mile service, and I'm also paying for 2 filters that go $17.99 for an engine air filter, and $23.99 for a cabin air filter at AutoZone. I know OEM filters are more but you would think their prices are competitive. So circling it back, for my 30,000 mile service we have: $50 in labor, less than $50 in parts + let's say 9% in taxes so about $110 total. That means in service fees, and markups I an paying an additional $40-$65 now. Let me make it clear: I am getting charged $40-$65 in service markups and fees, on top of a $110 service for 2 filters totaling a $178 quote, that I am REQUIRED to purchase; all because I paid $700 for a plan that advertises coverage of oil changes and tire rotations for life. I get that additional services, which are more expensive, are needed on the vehicle and that I will need them performed at some point; all at their respective intervals and they are not free. But why massively advertise your whole company with this amazing "Family Plan" that doesn't even give you the option to take additional RECOMMENDED services at your own convenience or discretion. I get now AFTER my frustrating service experience that it is in my contract for the Family Plan to take these additional recommended services, but The Family Plan's advertising is massively MISLEADING to say the least. The sales people will shove the Family Plan down your throat until you sign off on a car at their above MSRP price. Steer clear of the Family Plan at all costs and just go to places like Take 5 or Geralds for basic services. If you can't purchase a car at Fred Anderson Toyota of Charleston without taking the Family Plan, then take your business elsewhere as you are now signing yourself up to pay more in the long run. The advertisement on a helpful plan is a joke from sales; and the help, reasoning and assistance from service Dept. is pitiful. More
