BAIT AND SWITCH My daughter and I were directed to Fox Honda through the Costco Auto Buying program. When we realized the dealer was over an hour and 15 minutes away from home (the only Costco program choice that came up for my zip code) I responded to the dealer rep's (Amanda) email explaining that my daughter would probably shop a Honda Dealer closer to home and forgo the Costco discount. I received another email from Amanda stating that Fox Honda realized they were a long ways away from us but encouraged us to give them a chance. I looked at Fox's website and found two identically priced and featured Blue 2018 Honda CR-V EX-L AWD listed, the model and color my daughter was seeking to purchase. I wrote back to Amanda and asked her to quote a price (referencing one of the two VIN numbers) with the Costco discount, which she provided, suggesting my daughter and I drive out to take a test drive. She even promised that a $50 gift card would be provided if we made the trip (which was not mentioned again when we got there). I responded that the price seemed fair and asked if it would be convenient for us to stop by the next evening. The agreed to time was confirmed in an email by Amanda and then again by a phone call (from her coworker Julia) to my daughter about 5 hours before our scheduled appointment. My daughter took time off from work to make the drive to Auburn with us both arriving at the scheduled time about 15 minutes early. We asked for Amanda who then brought over who she said would be our sales rep, Lisa. Lisa then started telling us about a 2017 black on black CRV that she would pull around for us to drive. We listened politely to her pitch about how it was the same car as the 2018 and that Costco would give us a good price on it, but we responded that we were there to test drive, and then sign papers to purchase, the blue 2018 I had identified by VIN number in the confirmed email. Lisa again insisted the 2017 was the same car, not seeming to care that it was a different color, let alone year older model. My daughter repeated that she was there to buy a 2018. Again, Lisa insisted we drive the 2017 to see how we liked it. I asked why they were not bringing around the 2018 they had agreed to do for us. Only then did she finally say the car had been sold earlier that afternoon. I asked about the second one listed on the website that was identical to what we expected to see and once again the spin was on for us to buy the 2017. I reaffirmed that my daughter's only interest was in the blue 2018. Lisa said she was not aware of a 2nd blue 2018 and again started pitching the 2017. We then asked Lisa why no one bothered to call us to tell us there were no 2018's on the lot, let alone neither of the two blue ones, and she yet again tried to pitch the black 2017. Frustrated we got up from the table and went to Amanda's office and asked once again about seeing a blue 2018. Another male rep who did not identify himself said the blue one had been sold, and did not address why a second one was still listed on the website when asked, only saying many more would be coming in that he would be happy to sell us. I asked when and he said one might be onsite in a week or so, but no details were available on color or even model. I asked Amanda why she did not call, email or text us to save us the trip and she said she was not told the car had been sold. When I expressed disappointment in how things were handled by the dealer she responded by saying how much work it was for her to quote the price and arrange the meeting. As I pointed out, that was her job and not my concern. As my daughter correctly pointed out, perhaps most frustrating was no one at any time apologized for not contacting us to save us the long drive. A simple text or call, even at the last minute, would have allowed us to at least turn around and return another time. There was no effort even after we left unhappy and disgusted to send an apology via text, call or email. It is clear the intention was to get us into the dealer with an attractive price on a 2018 so they could spin the sale of a year old model in a color (black) that was of no interest to the buyer. Horrible experience that will be shared with both Costco and the Honda Company. More

I took a Honda CR-V for a test drive at Fox Honda—really liked the car a lot. After the drive, I went inside with the sales guy to discuss monthly payments, trade-in value for my car, etc. After we talked for a while, Tyler Smolak (manager or finance guy?) came out of his office to talk with me. Initially he mentioned my current vehicle—that he searched online to find my post— and told me I wouldn’t get the price I was asking for. I then told him the amount I would ideally like to put down for my next car, with which he responded, “Even if you sell your car for the price you’re asking, that won’t give you the full amount you’d need for your down payment.” I knew that (I’m not a moron!) and I told him that wasn’t my plan anyways. He then asked me, “And... where is the rest of that money coming from?” ....as if that’s ANY of his business?!?! Anyways, if I could give zero stars on this review I would. My advice to anyone considering Fox Honda—just don’t. Especially if you want to avoid rude, invasive, and tasteless people. More
