Warranty repairs not honored; held hostage by bogus repairs RE: Service Department. - Filed complaint to Better Business Bureau. - Sent letter to MB General Manager Customer Assistance Center, Montvale, NJ. RE: Service Department. - Filed complaint to Better Business Bureau. - Sent letter to MB General Manager Customer Assistance Center, Montvale, NJ. After receiving the warranty extension letter regarding well-known "Covered Fuel Tank Components" from MB's General Manager, Lisa, I called Fletcher Jones Newport Beach and scheduled a 9AM appointment to resolve the gas smell/evaporation into the car's cabin. Arrived at 9AM with my 9-months pregnant wife and greeted Service Advisor, John, who assured me everything would be taken care of. I asked how many man hours of work it will take and he said, "All day.". We signed for the courtesy car and drove off--my wife had two doctor's appointments. Leaving the doctor's at 3PM, John calls to ask how long I've owned the car. I replied 'not long' but in retrospect this should've been my first clue he's fishing for info to continue running the scam. He continues with a story about my catalytic converters are missing, it's straight pipe exhaust, has no idea how I passed smog, blah blah blah, warranty repairs cannot be completed unless I pay $400 to put in new cats. Told John, none of that sounded right and to drop the rack, I'm immediately taking the car to my honest mechanic to take a look. When I returned to FJNB to pick up my car, of course, John was "too busy" to talk. I wanted to get to the bottom of the missing cats and work towards resolution, but he avoided me and wouldn't stop walking here and there as I chased him. I was barely able to request a list of repairs--no mention of catalytic converters. At 4PM, I arrive at the mechanics shop, we lifted the car, and sure enough, cats are there. Owned this car for 5 years, passed a smog test in two different places and my mechanic never mentioned missing cats when we previously discussed a fuel evaporation sensor triggered year ago. Three points of reference contrary to Service Advisor, John. That evening, I thought, "Well, I had a 9AM appointment and Fletcher Jones did have my car all day, perhaps they still resolved the warranty issue and tried to run the scam afterwards." so I topped my vehicle off with gas and parked it. The next morning the cabin is full of fuel vapor. Not fixed. This means Fletcher Jones sat on the car all day only to begin work at 3PM for an "all day" warranty repair. A newborn baby will soon be sitting in a car seat smelling gasoline vapor. Thanks for [not] helping, Fletcher Jones. And nice try, Service Advisor, John. More
