Unpleasant negotiating experience I was very unsatisfied with the experience of negotiating the price for this car. I told the salesperson in no uncertain terms that I was only intere I was very unsatisfied with the experience of negotiating the price for this car. I told the salesperson in no uncertain terms that I was only interested in financing the purchase if the interest was 1.5% or less (otherwise I would pay in cash). He took my financial information, left the room, and came back and told me that after speaking to his finance people this interest rate was very possible. Later, after I commit and hand over $5000, the finance person tells me that the interest rate is 3.5%. I have excellent credit - so there is absolutely no way that 1.5% was even in the realm of possibility. Furthermore, he had never discussed this with the salesperson (despite me being told to the contrary), and stated that I should not have even been quoted an interest rate. All the salesman needed to say to me was that the interest rates were market rates (ie no incentives) - and I would have known 1.5% didn't exist. Instead, he lied to get me to finance, so that the dealership could take the rebate available only through financing and use it for their profit. I can't decide whether I should never return to this dealership for service, or make sure I come back for 15 years to make sure that I get every last drop of the free oil changes they're offering. I would have let it drop, but the hassle of dealing with financing, getting the title, etc. for a car I wanted to pay in cash is aggravating. More
