Took in my 2020 Malibu for service. Car was running just fine, all gauges were in the normal range. Car needed a correction for faulty sensors and a smog check. Was informed by my servi Car was running just fine, all gauges were in the normal range. Car needed a correction for faulty sensors and a smog check. Was informed by my service consultant Nick that I would need a $9,000 engine replacement due to sludge buildup. I asked if the sensors could be replaced and codes cleared so we can see where we are and he told me that couldn't be done. And in order to get my car back I'm looking at a $3,000 bill so they can put my valve covers back on and I can drive it out. I don't understand how we can skip the easy fix and go all the way to an expensive fix when it looks like it's not needed.????? I've spent over $1,500 in car rental fees just to get around in the last two weeks without my car. I understand that there are bills to be paid at the dealership to keep it open, so you want to maximize the most expensive amount of work to be billed (warranty or not). But this was just two sensors. More
