To start, I stumbled upon a car at FOCCJDR on Autotrader early in the morning when I was about to head out to another dealership in Tysons to test drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee I had been looking at for a few early in the morning when I was about to head out to another dealership in Tysons to test drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee I had been looking at for a few days and had an appointment. The process started out good by talking with Elias and then meeting him in person. He brought me to the car to show it to me.. To be fair, it was a snowing outside so the dealership had a policy against driving in the snow due to weather conditions. However Elias was easy to work with, seemed like a straight shooter and willing to work with me to make a deal happen. Since it was snowing it was hard to see the car in full in person. It wasn't until I reviewed the online pictures that i realized the trim package wasn't what I was looking for. I had considered still getting it but lost a little interest at that point. Furthermore, once the talk of financing started with Mike, I really lost interest. That's when I felt like I was dealing with a typical car dealership and the whole "what do i need to get you to sign NOW." I felt like there was this whole "let me work the numbers while I sat in his office" and then when I mentioned the other dealership is expecting me, the car has lower milage, same price, higher trim package, etc. All of a sudden the monthly numbers were able to go down, with a warranty included. I weighed my options but since I couldn't test drive the car, another one was available with lower milage, higher package etc, it would have been a bad move to sign right there. When I mentioned as a consumer I want to see what my options are with the other dealership and if this is the better deal I'll come back, I felt like thats when things started to fall apart quickly. Mike would step out and say "Let me talk to the manager" and when he'd come back didn't specifically say this but it felt inferred that if i didn't buy that car now, the deal was off the table. To which I said, if thats how you operate then the deal is off. He backed up at that point and realized he could lose the deal (which ultimately he did). I will be honest, dealing with Elias was great, I really liked him which is why I was very close to closing on that car. He explained everything very thoroughly, seemed to work with me on my trade in, initially get the numbers where I needed them to be, so on and so forth. I'd highly recommend him. Furthermore, I am a level headed person and Mike was a nice enough guy, but I felt like it came down to your typical car dealership tactics. "Let me play with the numbers," Let me talk to the manager," "You can leave if you want, noones forcing you to buy, but if you do the deals off the table." etc. To get the number from $460 a month to $414 with a full warranty was great but dumb I had to threaten to leave the dealership to get that number down that low. I went to the other dealership which offered me everything FOCCJDR offered, including allowing me to test drive the car. They just seemed very straight forward, to the point without the whole car dealership tactics. So would I recommend this dealership? I would say definitely yes because of Elias but it would depend on if some of these other tactics mentioned and if they changed if I'd truly buy from them. More
