I was on a road trip and a truck kicked up a rock breaking the fog lamp on my 2017 Ridgeline. I wanted to replace the lamp before my long trip home. I explained my problem to the El Cerrito service r breaking the fog lamp on my 2017 Ridgeline. I wanted to replace the lamp before my long trip home. I explained my problem to the El Cerrito service representative on the phone, priced out the work (both parts ad labour) and was quoted a price of $225. Based on these representations I scheduled an appointment to get the work done. When I showed up for the appointment the only additional piece of information I provided was that I was from out of town. I was told that , the job would be almost twice as expensive as the amount I had been quoted on the phone - $410 - including two hours labour (at $160 per hour), the parts had not been ordered (as I had requested) and that the work could not be done until the next day. Honda of El Cerrito wasted my entire morning with this charade. Replacing the fog lamp assembly has to be done on a hoist but largely involves removing a cover plate (eight bolts and four clips), disconnecting the old fog lamp assembly (three screws), putting in the new fog lamp assembly (three screws), testing the new assembly and replacing the cover plate. In my opinion, the labour estimate was grossly inflated - either that or they have the slowest technicians in the Bay Area. In any event, my experience with Honda of El Cerrito is that you cannot rely on anything they say to you on the phone - that's just the hook to get you into the dealership. In addition, the service reps. will try to charm you into paying as much as possible for your repairs - especially if you're from out of town or don't know much about motor vehicles. If you don't believe me, read a few more of the negative service reviews (not the ones that look like they were written by the service managers family) where they seem to have have employed similar practices in the past. I love my Honda but not this particular dealership. More
