We settled on a car and then came the price negotiations...a process that is always mystifying to us and we suspect to many folks. After a three-day dance of haggle, higgle, wiggle, waggle we settled on a price that satisfied both us and the dealership. Did we get a good deal? I tend to think so. But, through it all Tim was courteous and thoughtful. We found him to be a good family man with kids of junior high age. We believe him to have good personal standards. He also listens more than he talks, which is always a good attribute for car salesmen. More

So, we went through the test drive and sales pitch but was very disappointed that the first price we were quoted was $230-$240. That was so far over our budget, despite my mentioning multiple times that price (and safety) was most important (we had our newborn son with us) that we almost left at that moment. But we had done our research and knew the Hyundai was a great car so stayed. I'm ok with the negotiated price but it was at the maximum, to the dollar, of what we could afford. Maybe all car buying is like that, but it's frustrating to think that the price I'm going to pay has more to do with my negotiating skills than upfront advertising or actual car value. I also had to wait in the lobby for over 1 hour in between test drive/agreement signing and sitting with finance due to multiple customers. My salesman apologized and said that never happens, but the finance guy says it happens all the time. Turned into a really long day; Great car to drive at the end though. More
