Worst car buying experience EVERRRR It all started with a lie when Douglas call me Tuesday morning after my internet inquiry and said, " I like to believe that I am really good at my job It all started with a lie when Douglas call me Tuesday morning after my internet inquiry and said, " I like to believe that I am really good at my job and I have your best interest!" The rest is not interesting but IMPORTANT so hear me out. I am a teacher in rural South Dakota and I had been looking around for a reliable car after my old pickup failed me in the middle of a trip. Once I decided that Subaru Outback was my vehicle I started talking to multiple dealerships to get the best deal (teachers don't make a whole lot so). I decided to take my business to Edwards because they offered the best deal (30,500 for a 2017 outback with all the latest convenience features and packages) among Beardmore (Bellevue), Ramsey (Des Moines), and Baxter (Omaha). Negotiation over the phone was fishy as Adam agreed to sell the vehicle for 30,500 only for Douglas to call me 20 minutes later to say that they wouldn't be able to follow up on that promise (said that the owner disagreed and that they can't sell it for anything less than $31, 000). About 30 minutes later another manager named Dan called and said that he would keep up the promise and sell the vehicle for 30,500! I should have known that these people were just a bunch of manipulative liars and should have never went there. Before going to the dealership though, I wanted to make sure that my paperwork was done, that my credit was approved and that I am eligible for their 0% - 48 months/ 0.9% 60 months financing deal. They made me fill out their online finance application, which I promptly did and Adam called me with the news that my credit was approved for 0% or 0.9 % (my choice), and that all they needed from me was to go over to the dealership with my driver's license, proof of insurance, and that no, no deposit would be required of me! I've included transcripts of our conversations below. Before I left for the dealership, I called Adam again to make sure that everything was in order and that I wouldn't be disappointed. This was a two-hour drive (I was visiting my parents in Des Moines) and it was important for me to make sure that I didn't have to come back empty handed, waste of time and money. He promised it again that the papers were in order and that I needed to sign them and drive my car home!! Douglas had left when I got there and Adam followed shortly after my arrival. April showed me the outback and made me sign miscellaneous papers. We took it on a drive, went to the service center, and everything looked set. Then, the finance manager intervened! He said that my credit was never approved and that I wouldn't be eligible to buy the car!!! As you can probably imagine, I WAS DEVASTATED! Not because I wound’s get the car of my choice but for all the lies, misinformation and manipulation. Turns out either of the two things happened: that they lied me by saying that my credit wasn't approved when it actually was (my credit score is in the 700s) to rip me off with a higher interest rate from another bank! Or that they played me to come to the store to completely throw me off and make the most out of my emotional decision making. Either way, they succeeded! I was so angry about the way they treated me that I did end up making an emotional decision and agreed on a 2.99 interest rate ( that restructured my deal to go up by $1300 in 5 years)!!! HANDS DOWN THE WORST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE EVER AND I WOULDN'T WISH THIS UPON EVEN MY WORST ENEMY. April: She was amazing, did what she was supposed to and had very little say to influence my experience. Douglas: wasn't there when I left but the conversations we had over the phone and via email reflected a skilled, manipulative sales person. Aaron, finance manager: He seemed like a nice guy. He seemed genuinely sorry for the way I was treated and maintained that my file wasn't transferred to him until the last minute and that he wouldn't have known if I was played. He maintained his honesty and sincerity and I don't think he was faking. Adam: He lied, and was very good at it. A textbook example of a manipulative and dishonest sales person. He promised, but it turned out of be a lie or an intentional act of misleading a customer. Dan: he was the only manager available and showed no remorse, neither did he take any responsibility for his employees' actions. The whole time he was very defensive of Douglas and Adam, maintaining that they "misspoke" but did not mislead, lie or manipulate. He said that he was not willing to "move a needle" to make up for what had happened. A textbook example of a corporate crony, some one that I wouldn't ever want to come across. He had the power to make it up, but chose not to. More
