Sleazy tactics that I hoped were gone in the car buying world. Don’t fall for it. Go somewhere else. They’re going to try to sell you stuff that you don’t need, at ridiculous prices, and say it’s impossibl world. Don’t fall for it. Go somewhere else. I had a great experience with Ben and with Napleton. If I ever need another car I know where I’m looking first If I ever need another car I know where I’m looking first More
I was contacted a couple of days ago by the Regional Customer Relations Manager for this dealership and was able to explain to her the reason for my 2 star review. She assured me this was not a typical Customer Relations Manager for this dealership and was able to explain to her the reason for my 2 star review. She assured me this was not a typical situation and, after speaking with her, I am updating the review gave regarding this dealership. She understood the reasons for my negative feelings and I appreciate her follow up call. I anticipate my future dealings with Napleton Honda to be positive ones. . More
My initial reaction to the dealership was disappointing because I had called about a specific car that was advertised and was told that it was available and would be brought up to the door and ready for me because I had called about a specific car that was advertised and was told that it was available and would be brought up to the door and ready for me to inspect when I arrived. HOWEVER, 45 minutes later I was told that the car was not on the lot - but there were others that I might like to see. I had requested to see Ben Pilla because the reviews I had read about him were all positive. He was busy at the time I arrived but I waited to meet with him and am pleased that I did. He was very knowledgeable and friendly and suggested a different car that I might like. I was given a printout of the car, returned home to discuss it with my husband and decided to return the following day. Before meeting again with Ben, I checked the website and saw that the first car I had inquired about was again listed as available. It was a less expensive car. I called and was told that it was available. HOWEVER, when we arrived for my husband to see the hybrid version, I was told that the non-hybrid was no longer available. (False advertising)? Bottom line, we purchased the hybrid. Again, dealing with Ben was a positive experience. But...our interactions with the sales manager and the finance manager were very stressful and unpleasant. Both tried to do "add ons" and were extremely unfriendly and at times rude when we would not agree to the terms they offered. We felt that the time involved with completing the sale was deliberately delayed (we were there for almost 4 hours!) in order to encourage us to accept the final sales price. One additional comment: Be sure to clarify the features on the car you want. After arriving home, we learned that the hybrid did NOT include an installed garage door opener, a BSI, a liner for the trunk or a spare tire - all features that we had expected to have on a new 2023 Honda Accord hybrid. Again, I would highly recommend Ben Pilla but would have preferred a better interaction with both the sales manager and the finance manager. Please note: I rate this dealership as 2 star because of the positive interaction we had with Ben Pilla but would alert any potential buyer about the less than positive treatment we received from the others with whom we had to deal. Ben was knowledgeable, friendly, and polite. He made us feel comfortable and I am happy we worked with him. He treated us with respect, which cannot be said for all at Napleton. As with all He made us feel comfortable and I am happy we worked with him. He treated us with respect, which cannot be said for all at Napleton. As with all car negotiations, ours was not without a certain amount of gamesmanship. However, that was expected, so be prepared for "let me check with my manager" and "let's get you the special rates" nonsense. This is all a ruse. Our "special rate" was the exact same as a published rate on a competitor Honda website. Do your homework before walking in the door. Negotiations with Ben and his manager Jacob were salesy, but cordial. We stayed firm to what we wanted and they recognized this deal would not include fluff dealer add-ons. Everything was going as expected until speaking with the Finance Manager. Out of professional courtesy, I won't name him. I doubt I'd receive the same from the Finance Manager. Despite spending over an hour coming to terms with Ben and Jacob, we had to fact check and question the Finance Manager about our deal. He bluntly said that he does not discuss the deal with his sales floor team. What a ridiculous comment. If the goal was to promote an efficient and seamless customer experience, seems like conversing with your colleagues would be step one. Unless, of course, the Finance Manager was lying. Don't be fooled by the deceptive practice to sneak favorable dealer terms back on the unsuspecting customer. Read before you sign the actual purchase contract. After confirming every previously negotiated term, including the essential contractual terms like price, term, and rate, we got back to our agreed upon sales price. The remainder of our interaction with the Finance Manager was like dealing with child that got caught doing something wrong. He was short in his responses, gave little to no eye contact, and became impatient as we reviewed his paperwork line by line. He lashed out by making passive aggressive comments about us being "atypical customers" and how we would likely regret not accepting his "recommendations". Rather than treating us with respect, he attempted to belittle us. Luckily, approval and assurance from someone like the Finance Manager is the last thing we need or desire. We spent a substantial amount of money on a beautiful vehicle. This should have been a win for the dealer and a win for the customer. The Finance Manager soured the whole experience for us. We visited Ed Napleton because it was the only local dealer that had our desired trim and color scheme. We left with the car. Overall, that is a win for us. But, you can best believe I will not be back for any future purchases. Even though buyers have little leverage in current market conditions, You can do better than the Finance Manager at Ed Napleton Honda. If you choose to purchase here, let this serve as your notice. Ben was fair, honest, and deserving of a recommendation. The same cannot be said of all employees at Ed Napleton Honda. More
