Kevin S is a great guy to work with. I've bought from him before. I've bought from him before. More
To preface this review - I went to EchoPark Automotive online and found a '21 RAV4 XLE Hybrid that I wanted to purchase. Did the credit application and chose terms successfully, and I selected that I didn online and found a '21 RAV4 XLE Hybrid that I wanted to purchase. Did the credit application and chose terms successfully, and I selected that I didn't want to purchase any additional vehicle service contracts or warranties. By doing most of the process online, I thought I would be in and out in no more than an hour. Deposit was already on my credit card, and all I had to do was swipe a debit card for the down payment. Sounds reasonable, right? I get there by 7 PM same day based on the appointment I've scheduled with an EchoPark rep through text message. Guy at the front desk (who appears to be the sales coach's manager later in this review) said there is a 45 minute wait, which is interesting given that the appointment was made to avoid this kind of wait. I asked if there was a hold up on the car, gave me a bit of attitude, shrugged it off and sat down. To their credit, only 10 minutes later, Larry comes in and guides me through the process, including the process of providing documentation needed to buy the car. He went into how he's different from a sales person and doesn't pressure you with anything, he's not trying to sell me anything. Thought that sounded good. He went off to the next customer for a bit, jumping from one table to the next. Another half hour goes by, he comes back and is ready for me to test drive the car with keys in hand. The car drove great, hybrid powertrain is smooth, and I wanted to finish up the process. Like what Larry said, EchoPark wants you to know that they are different than other dealerships; like CarMax, they advertise that they are a no-haggle, no-pressure dealership. The experience after the test drive was by far not what they claim themselves to me. Larry got into the vehicle service contracts and what it can do for me, and I said I'm not interested, I have bought cars before and did fine without them. He said it's mandatory for me to look at the numbers with the vehicle service contract before I proceed. I tell him, fine, get the numbers, and we can wrap this up. It was almost closing time by that point, and everyone else had left, and his manager had the gall to come up saying, "our associate is telling me you don't want to buy the vehicle service contract," and launches into a whole tirade about why I should reconsider, that vehicles are "computers on wheels," equating a life experience with a Mercedes rather than the Toyota I'm buying. This is absolutely something I've heard before when dealers are selling VSCs. When I'm buying a car, I know what I want, and certainly have felt pressure during the spiel to tack on the vehicle service contracts. Other reviews on here say that while EchoPark is up to $3K below of what competitors offer, they try to make up for with the vehicle service contract. Frankly, I believe it. After 20 minutes of his ranting, I ultimately decided not to buy the car and walked out on them. The manager said that they're salaried and they don't work off of commission, but they sell and pressure you with extra things that only you can decide on what you need. He said I could decline at any time, but yet when I did with Larry and showing that I obviously do not want the vehicle service contracts, they are relentless in their sales pitch. A couple of days later, EchoPark rep Michael told me they brought the price down on that RAV4, I asked by how much? It was then by e-mail an hour later telling me it's already been sold. I do not recommend anyone go to EchoPark if you want a seamless, no-haggle, and no pressure car buying experience. Will go to a dealership or CarMax before these guys, as I've historically had a better time with them. More
