We purchased a 2014 Nissan Frontier from Elliott Team Ford. There was an issue with the shifting mechanism. It had to be manually released from Park in order to move into another gear. We were pretty much assured it was just a minor issue/repair, likely a loose cable in the shift mechanism. So in order to make a better deal, we bought the Frontier in "As Is" condition. The next morning, we took the Frontier to our local Robbins Nissan dealership who informed us that it was NOT a minor issue and that likely the entire shift mechanism which includes the damaged shift solenoid would have to be replaced at a cost of $1600. We took the vehicle to Christian Brothers Auto Repair in Humble and they confirmed the issue and cost. Upon further inspection, Nissan informed us that the mileage was within 200 miles of needing an oil change, the battery had two dead cells (they had to jump it), and that the brakes were worn to 3 mm, just below bare minimum for safe operations, and a therefore a brake job was needed. So after purchase, we spent an additional $2,200 to get the vehicle in good operating condition. We did purchase the vehicle "As Is", but we did so trusting the dealership on the "minor issue" with the shift mechanism. We relied on their word, and therefore we feel taken advantage of. We might have been suspicious of a city dealership, but we expected better from a rural dealership. More
