My daughter and I went to Dick Hannah VW with the intention of trading a 2013 Prius V for a newer used car. Unfortunately, we couldn't get my daughter's Prius out of the snow/ice so we couldn't bring intention of trading a 2013 Prius V for a newer used car. Unfortunately, we couldn't get my daughter's Prius out of the snow/ice so we couldn't bring it with us. Probably best we had as the process could not be accurately completed without it. My daughter didn't like the first car that we test drove, so Nick was good in asking what she really wanted. He found a car that she really did like but he would have to get a commitment from us to bring it back from another Dick Hannah lot. The only thing that made us consider committing to a car we didn't drive is that Nick said he could match a $12,000 offer for the Prius from SeaPort. Remember, he hasn't seen the car, only going by a picture of our SeaPort quote and a KBB quote for an inaccurate trim level. This resulted in a significantly less valuable car than they thought. They eventually decided they could offer us $7,000, possibly $8,000 for the Prius. As this was significantly less than we had wanted, we pulled the plug. Overall, this taught me and my daughter two valuable lessons: (1) Always bring your vehicle for a trade-in so that you can get the offer done accurately and slightly more quickly. That said, their "Offer Sheet" should not have even been started with $12,000 as the KBB sheet was done before I arrived. Lesson #2 is that the salesman and finance department dynamic can make buying a car more complicated. It may work to the benefit of both the customer and the dealer at times, but it can also create a tangled web. Update: I was contacted by Dick Hannah and I appreciate how they considered this review as significant. I was helped negotiate some of the problems I currently have with the registration of our Prius and I would consider seeing them again if we need another car in the future. More
