I decided to use a third-party website to find a CPO Hyundai Tucson. I even had my search run 200 miles from my hometown. Basically, I decided if the price was right, it might be worth a tank of gas to Hyundai Tucson. I even had my search run 200 miles from my hometown. Basically, I decided if the price was right, it might be worth a tank of gas to save. That is exactly what happened, I found Delray Hyundai. Delray Hyundai had two Tucsons at $3000 LESS than comparable Tucsons anywhere within my 200-mile radius. I decided I would gladly pay for a tank of gas to save $3000 so I reached out to Delray Hyundai and spoke with Debra, letting her know I would be in the next morning to look at the vehicles. Driving across the state first thing in the morning, we kept the dealership (Debra), and our assigned salesperson (Ed) updated with our ETA and which two vehicles we were interested in. Debra was equally welcoming and understanding that we were driving a significant distance. She assured us that the vehicles would both be available; OR, if there were other customers interested, that she would call me, promptly letting me know the status of the vehicles I was interested in. Upon arrival, we did a test drive in both and decided on our vehicle. My salesperson Ed was anything but welcoming. He seemed nice enough during the test drive, but when we decided on the vehicle things changed. I asked for an “out the door” price but instead he brought out a sales sheet to finance the car. I asked him what my trade was valued at, and he showed the trade in value on the sales sheet of @ $9000.00. This offer was HALF of the estimate I received online from both Kelly Blue Book (KBB) and Carmax. I showed Ed my online quote from Carmax which offered $18,000. I also told him that online KBB was also estimating the trade-in value near $18,000 and I asked Ed why I was quoted half the actual value. Ed said that the estimates I received online were just that; estimates and tried to convince me that when someone actually looked at and reviewed my trade, their estimate would adjust to something closer to their $9,000 offer. He even went so far as to tell me that the dealership had someone onsite that works with Carmax and tried to assure me the $9,000 offer would be the same offer as if I took the car to Carmax. This SCREAMED of dishonesty and the stereotype of the “used car salesman”. Unfortunately, the car I wanted was still at this dealership and still $3,000 less than a comparable Tucson anywhere within 200 miles; so, I can either walk away or continue dealing with someone deliberately being dishonest. I took a lunch break and drove my trade to Carmax to get their (official) purchase offer. Not surprisingly, Carmax printed out their offer which matched the original value of $18,000!!! I then relayed my experience with Ed to the Carmax rep regarding the trade value and his statement that the dealership has an appraiser that works with Carmax to make sure they give us top value (something along those lines). Again, unsurprisingly, the Carmax rep verified that Carmax team members only work at Carmax. They do not send team members to dealerships to provide estimates. Which I knew, just wanted to confirm both falsehoods before returning to the dealership. I returned to the dealership to purchase the Tucson. It was $3000 less than any comparable vehicle so if I chose to leave and not make the purchase, I would have cost myself $3000 just to buy somewhere else. It made more sense to confront the salesman with the true appraisal and work on a new sales proposal. I know this is a long review, but I want to make sure the review is fair and accurate. Additionally, I held off a couple of days to ensure my review was written with balance and not while I was still emotionally “hot”. I found Debra to be extremely helpful and pleasant. I found the dealership to be bright and clean. I ONLY had an issue with the salesperson Ed. His blatant dishonesty throughout the entire process is unethical. Unfortunately, my sales experience was horrendous and overshadowed everything else. Would I return? If I found More
