I am only recommending this dealership because I know they have a long standing history of a good reputation. However, with that being said, I felt like a complete fool when it came time to sit with the they have a long standing history of a good reputation. However, with that being said, I felt like a complete fool when it came time to sit with the business office and close the deal. I was with my salesman, Ed, for about 4-5 hours today. I got the sense that he was a good person and wouldn’t take advantage like most car salesmen have a reputation for, which is why I always usually go to CARMAX. I originally came in today to see what was wrong with my radio. The service team told me it was most likely the radio itself and not the entire computer system, but parts quoted me $2000 for the repair. I was upset with this, and while waiting to talk things over with my husband, I decided to walk the lot and look at what was out there. My dream car was on the lot. I currently had a 2018 black Limited Jeep Grand Cherokee, but desperately wanted an all blacked-out updated version. I wanted to sit and run the numbers and made it VERY CLEAR from the gate that I was NOT closing on anything without the numbers being right for me. Ed seemed understanding and ran the numbers. He came back with anywhere between $550 and $650 as options for monthly payment. I told him that was way more then I’m comfortable spending, and would either need to do something to get it down to $450, which was my max, or I needed to pass up on the car. He went and spoke with the office and came back to tell me that they added more money to my trade-in and wrote down on a piece of paper in front of me that with $2000 down today, that they would get me to $449 a month. I was thrilled and couldn’t say yes fast enough. My husband came and saw the same paper, walked the lot to see the vehicle with me again and Ed politely answered all of his questions. Everything seemed to be working out, and I was very willing to spend $2000 on getting a newer and better vehicle, instead of putting $2000 into an almost 6 year old vehicle with over 70,000 miles on it. Next, we sat down with Jan in the business department and she was amazing. However, halfway through, she mentioned the payment of a number over $500 and I questioned her. She stated again about the higher payment and I told her I was greatly confused. I told her that Ed quoted me $449 and said he somehow worked it out to get the deal done and get me to a price I was comfortable with. I told her it was written on a paper that he turned in with my other paperwork and she ended up finding that paper. CLEAR as day, you could tell someone wrote a 5 over top of the 4 at some point to change it to $549 a month. I was livid, hurt, overwhelmed with worry and felt completely taken for a fool. Jan was nice enough to stop the process and question the manager about it. She said the math doesn’t work out for the $449 to ever have been possible and that made me even more frustrated. When Ed came back from filling the new car up with gas, I approached him and he did not seem shocked, responsive or empathetic at all about any of this. I felt incredibly stupid and foolish that I sat with this man for hours thinking he was a good person, to turn around and see him standing there looking smug, like he attempted to swindle me purposely for his own benefit. I was disgusted by him and if it wasn’t for David’s amazing reputation that he has built, the assistance of Jan and the manager, Jim Atkins - then I would have left an incredibly irritated, devastated and distraught client. Jim was witness to the near panic attack I almost had in his office from the overwhelming anxiety this caused me. I am a type-A personality and a teacher, so I am still in disbelief how anyone could ever do this to someone, let alone a paying customer. I am incredibly grateful for Jim’s kindness that he got my payment down to around $500 a month so I could still leave with my dream car and a payment I could afford. Ed should be ashamed of himself after this, but I am grateful to the rest of the team for their assistance. More
