Update: My experience with Darrell Waltrip has gone seriously south since I first wrote my review. The after purchase experience has been pretty bad. First, the extended warranty. . . ., but I mentio seriously south since I first wrote my review. The after purchase experience has been pretty bad. First, the extended warranty. . . ., but I mentioned that already (I just didn’t go into all the gory details since it ultimately ended okay—but it was a major headache). Second, and much more troubling, I turned out to be driving around with an unregistered car for a while because they did not get the license plate transferred before my state's grace period ran out. And on that topic, they put my old plate on my new car without transferring the tag at all—so I was pretty much driving illegally for a month. When no new tag appeared after a month, I called the courthouse and they told me to ask the dealer to overnight me a temporary one as I could be cited. Darrell Waltrip did do that. In hindsight, I’m quite surprised I didn’t get the temporary one when I drove the car off the lot. Fortunately, I never got pulled over. Third, and really problematically, they were supposed to transfer the title and not just the tag. After a month, out of the blue and with no warning I received a FedEx overnight delivery with all the paperwork needed to transfer the title and get the registration myself. I'm wondering why they didn't just give me all the paperwork when I was at the dealership so this could have been done weeks ago. They had charged me all the fees for my state when I bought the car, and the packet included a refund check for all that--why charge me initially just to return it later with the paperwork? As I was to discover, however, there were many errors in this paperwork. The first thing I noticed was that the registration they included was for my utility trailer, not the car I traded in. I'm unsure why they even have the registration for my trailer (I didn’t have it at the dealership and they had no way of knowing I had a trailer), but they had the wrong tag information. At the courthouse, the clerk discovered several more errors—charging taxes on the full value of the vehicle and not the after trade-in amount, not including the date they took possession of the title to the vehicle, and things like that. I was very lucky that the clerk was helpful and was willing to fix these problems rather than sending me back to Darrell Waltrip to fix them (which I know from experience she very well could have done). In the end, I will not ever be making a return trip back to this dealer. Overall my experience was good. Mike and Jimmy were wonderful to wok with and made the car buying process about as pleasant as it could possibly be. Mike was especially helpful, making a video of the truck we were interested in and answering questions before we made a long drive to see it in person. The only issue we had came after the sale when I really tried to understand the various warranties the truck came with. During the closing process, we did buy an extended warranty, but there were so many options and numbers that it was all very confusing. That the truck had part of the original warranty left, plus the certified preowned warranty made it even worse. The next day when I sat down to figure out what warranties the truck actually had, I couldn't make heads or tails of it. I would have really, really appreciated a simpler and clearer explanation of that part of the transaction. It was beyond frustrating to not be able to clearly grasp it all and to not be able to get an explanation that would make it make sense. In the end I ultimately cancelled the extended warranty, and while it took a lot of phone tag to get it done, they did make it happen and the refund check arrived in a timely fashion. More
