Diver94, We are deeply saddened to hear you were left feeling so passionately that there is a culture of deception at Dan Cummins Chevrolet. It's apparent there has been a miscommunication of massive proportions, and we'd love to help clear the air. You are completely correct in stating that if one did have to lie, cheat and steal to earn a living that would be a truly miserable existence. Fortunately, that is not the case at this company. Unfortunately, on the other hand, you were given a very different impression. Perception is reality, so we certainly can't fault you for feeling highly frustrated. It is clear you truly care about your daughter, which is absolutely admirable. Family is so important, and I know I would go down fighting to protect mine any day. Given the negative stigmas often associated with the car business, I can completely see how a previous unknown could seem like a red flag in the heat of the moment. So I'd like to briefly give some background that I believe may be helpful. As a dealership employee who has paid the dealer processing fee multiple times, I know that this is a very common practice in the industry and am completely comfortable with the concept. But the difference here is that I sell cars every single day, and most people only buy them once every few years. There's always a chance this is not a practice a new client has ever come across, and it sounds like that is the case here. So the responsibility for a clear and accurate explanation falls on us 100%, no doubt. A few things I'd like to clear up: It is certainly NOT illegal to charge no fees ever, but it is definitely illegal to charge one customer and not another. Taking into account all costs that go in to purchasing, shipping, reconditioning, selling, and titling vehicles, there are certainly times where the processing fee is the only profit on a single transaction. We prefer to sell as many vehicles as possible to as many people as possible, making a small amount on each. That way we get to help more customers, and the benefits are exponential! This does mean that we operate with small margins, and also points to why the standard $599 processing fee is an imperative detail that helps keep this train on the tracks. I have to think that had our sales team gone the extra mile and provided the full pricing quote to your daughter prior to her visit, this never would have been a surprise. Our team is always as up front and transparent as possible when it comes to pricing details. As they should be! Again, we did not explain or show the value we offer clearly enough. And for that we are truly sorry. I certainly do not hope that any of our 300+ hard working employees choke on anything under any circumstances. They are really nice people, with families of their own. After calling this place my second home the past 5 years, I have no doubt that spending a little more time with us would show you the true heart of Dan Cummins Chevrolet. We are human. You are human. I'm confident we can resolve this, and start over. At least that is my hope! In conclusion, I have to thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Your review truly was well written and showed you care deeply about your daughter. She is lucky to have you. Whether or not we can do business in the future, I want to wish you the best in all your endeavors. Have a blessed day! -Megan Saxey, BDC Director 859-340-1755 x 322, megansaxey@dancummins.com

Ms. Saxey, I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my review. Your response does not change any of the facts, but it is appreciated none the less. I would dispute your claim that 600.00 is all that your company profits from the sale of a car, but we could argue that fact all day. Somehow I doubt that Mr Cummins has amassed millions of dollars in real estate, 600.00 at a time. Nor could he pay 300+ employees on that amount as well. My dispute with the salesman and F&I employee was due to the fees being hidden until the time of signing the contract. That is an age old sales ploy, and it is a type of deception. The price of the car should include any dealers fees when advertised. You and all your co-employees know this. I would also disagree that it is illegal for you to charge one person the fee, and not another. Would you please cite the statute that deals with this matter? If so, I would be happy to retract that statement. I suspect you are implying that it would be considered discriminatory, but since it is not really a fee, but more truthfully, additional profit, then discrimination has nothing to do with this issue. All I expect from a dealership is honesty. I can make my own decision about how competitive a price is. The reason that you hide the fee is to make the deal seem competitive, when in reality it is not. I do apologize for the choking remark. It was said in anger. I would never wish harm on anyone. Going forward, it is up to the team at Dan Cummins to either deal fairly or not. If the sales team continues to withhold honest pricing and hide behind dealer fees to make more profit, then nothing has been learned, and the culture at your business is just as I said. The choice is up to you.

It is never our intention to leave you upset or disappointed, and we are terribly sorry for the way you are feeling. I'm not able to look up your contact information based on this review, but would be glad to do all in my power to resolve this situation for you.
