Not a particularly good experience. I was in the market for a used car to replace mine (but in no rush), had a price range in mind, and had a used car to trade in. I'd read about these guys before, so I k for a used car to replace mine (but in no rush), had a price range in mind, and had a used car to trade in. I'd read about these guys before, so I knew about their crazy fees (about $400 for a doc fee and $700 for a prep "PDI fee") in advance. I had looked online at inventory at several dealers and decided to start here. I had seen that their "internet prices" were about $2k off the marked sticker price for most cars, and I took this as a starting point. I showed up during lunch, and Aladdin pointed me in the direction of several cars, steering me to one that was (by sticker) above what he knew I wanted to pay, but not that over my range based on the "internet price", so I figure he knew there would be a significant reduction. Before I got started, I wanted a trade-in appraisal of my old car, a 9-year old Accord that would certainly be sold at auction for parts. He strongly offered that I take the used Civic I was looking at with me back to work, and that when I returned after work, they would have completed the appraisal by then. (Sketchy Point 1) Before I left, Aladdin wrote up on a sheet of paper the sentence, "I agree to do business with Fairfax Honda today," and asked me to sign it. While truly of no legal consequence, this type of thing is often done to scam people into not later walking away from a bad deal by saying, "you signed and agreed to buy a car here today; you can't leave, or you'd be in breach of contract." I flatly refused to sign it and said, "Are you crazy? I'm not going to sign that." He chuckled because he knew it was ridiculous. I then told him he was giving me reason to distrust him. (Sketchy Point 2) I returned several hours later, and no appraisal had been made. He said they had been busy, but I was the only customer in the building on a light Friday afternoon. At this dealership (like many), they love to wrap the appraisal up into the cost of the vehicle, to make it difficult to objectively negotiate them separately. Anyway, they went to do the appraisal then, and it didn't take them long. When I received it, it was listed on a worksheet with all the other numbers of the car to come up with a "final" figure (note: final does not include their $1100 markup or government fees). They came back with a figure 25% below what they knew was the low range of what I expected on it. I said, flatly, "no, that's not right," and they, after 2 minutes of "looking" at it again, gave me what I asked for. Clearly, they had just wanted me to have to come back to the dealership a second time. This would have been a reasonable trade-off for me if the appraisal had been done before I got there, but they lied and didn't live up to their side of the bargain. When they lowballed me on the trade-in and then, with almost no effort on my part, upped it back up, I was left with a really distasteful feeling. (Sketchy Point 3) When I looked at the worksheet now, he had a price circled, taking into account the "sticker", the reduction to the "internet price" without me asking, and the value of the trade-in. I said, "you guys are known for absurdly high junk fees. Tell me the final number, and itemize it out. He did so, and it came in about $1100 higher. A "prep" fee for a used car is only ridiculous because it needs to be taken into account with the price -- all kinds of work is done on used cars for sale (maybe new tires, maybe paint touch-ups, etc.) but it's odd to have a flat fee for this, and it really is just part of the markup. As long as it's revealed, you can take it into account with negotiation. When it comes up *after* you've already negotiated, however, it's frustrating and, I'd say, dishonest. At this point, I had a total figure from them, including their junk fees, and I could better negotiate. Next came the negotiation, which anyone should expect on a used car, and it wasn't particularly unusual here. I honestly told them that I was in no need to purchase that day, but if they gave me the price I wanted, I'd buy then. Otherwise, I'd want to look elsewhere, but that I might be back. This all took place in October 2008, shortly after the market had plunged, and people weren't buying many cars. I can imagine they really wanted to get it off the lot. I set a price, and he kept negotiating down, sometimes standing up to "talk" to his manager. He'd come back to about 50% of the difference between his last figure and mine. Every time I'd repeat, "I'm not negotiating. If you can hit this price, I'll buy today if everything checks out, but if not, I *might* buy from you, but I'm going to look elsewhere first." This repeated itself maybe 3 or 4 times, and became ridiculous when he was quibbling over $150. Ultimately, he came down. It was a little smarmy and pressuring, but not really anything I wouldn't expect, and he was reasonably nice about it. It was sort of amusing to me that when he More
My 2003 Honda Civic needed to have brakes fixed and I waited to the last minute to getting in done because the service was going to be expensive. I called around and got several quotes from Honda dealers waited to the last minute to getting in done because the service was going to be expensive. I called around and got several quotes from Honda dealers and independent shop. The prices I received were lower at the independent shops, however they did not used the factory parts. I spoke to an advisor at Fairfax Honda and was told that they would match the repair price and I would just pay the difference for the factory price. I told it there and the service was done nicely and I feel much more comfortable that a certified Honda mechanic worked on my car…at the lower price. More

Hi, I have been here twice after I moved to VA. Both Hi, I have been here twice after I moved to VA. Both the times it had been a bitter experiance. They weren't helpful. First time I was here as DMV s Hi, I have been here twice after I moved to VA. Both the times it had been a bitter experiance. They weren't helpful. First time I was here as DMV suggested me to return the NJ plates(yeah, I got the car from NJ dealer and moved here immed.).When I calle my NJ dealer, he mentioned that any Honda dealer can accept it so please return in to the Fairfax honda and they should help you out. to my surprise, they weren't even good at just answering me in a nice way.! First question they asked me after I mentioned my situation is "so what you want us to do with the number plates?" and there was a big laugh by others(including the manager). Second time it was more worse, I went there for oil change and scheduled the appointment and they asked me all the details(where i got the car, how many miiles..etc.). I was told that oil change is free for the first time so I need not pay anything. Next day I went to drop off the car and I was handled by a person(dont remember the name but he will be sitting in the second table from the first entrance in the service dept.). Again he asked me so you got the car from NJ and I said yes, he changed the amount from 0$(special) to almost 80$(oil + tire rotation). I asked him why would you change it as I was told its for first time and he mentioned that I got wrong info from some one the previous day and also you did not get the car HERE. I was thinking in my mind that his attitude is because I did not get the car from this dealer. he argued with me for 10 min and then told me to get out. I did not want to complain about him because in my first incident the person who was laughing out there was the manager(one of the manager). My recommendation is not to approach these guys if you have option of going to some other dealer or be aggressive. thanks More
I broke my side mirror backing parking to close to another car. I called Fairfax Honda and they had the part in stock, provided me an estimate and gave me an appointment for the next day. The final b another car. I called Fairfax Honda and they had the part in stock, provided me an estimate and gave me an appointment for the next day. The final bill was less than the original estimate because the repair took less time than they had estimated. Would highly recommend their service department. More

I am a sports car fanatic and like to talk to the mechanic that works on my cars. I have been to several other dealers that were not accomodating at all. I would like to know that the mechanic working on my car just didnt get out of high school. That's why my honda only gets taken care of at Fairfax Honda. They let me talk to the mechanic and the staff is always very accomodating. More
I've been with my friends and family to plenty of time to buy new cars, and I've seen the car salesmen hassle them. Not at Fairfax Honda though. We walked in and were greeted by John and he was laid back and buy new cars, and I've seen the car salesmen hassle them. Not at Fairfax Honda though. We walked in and were greeted by John and he was laid back and really nice. We told him that we had shopped several dealers knew what we were looking to spend. He found a brand new civic that fit the price and we test drove the car and then did the paperwork. Financing it was easy, we got a great deal on APR and warranty. Fawad really made the process easy and smooth and I would recommend going to this dealership-worth the drive for me. More
Our family has purchased 2 used cars from Fairfax Honda and both cars have been very good cars. The first vehicle is a Honda Odyssey and the second one is a Honda Civic for our daughter. We had a inciden and both cars have been very good cars. The first vehicle is a Honda Odyssey and the second one is a Honda Civic for our daughter. We had a incident with our Odyssey where it would not start and we called the dealer. The service person asked us a few questions and suggested that we have it jumped started because it sounded like a battery issue. They offered to send someone down to us since we purchased the car from them, but we were able to get a jump start from our neighbor. The Odyssey started right up and noticed that on of the rear lights was left on all night. We took the vehicle to get the battery tested and the service people there recharged it for us at no charge. We have had no problems since. More
On March 1, 2008, my wife and I went to Rosenthal Honda Fairfax, 11020 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA. We traded in our Honda Civic for a 2005 Honda CRV, CERTIFIED USED. They showed us the Carfax History Repo Fairfax, 11020 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA. We traded in our Honda Civic for a 2005 Honda CRV, CERTIFIED USED. They showed us the Carfax History Report & everything seemed great. (Sales person: Jesse Annis) I put $4000.00 down and drove away in my "new" Certified Used Honda. Easter Sunday, March 23, the car broke down. It was towed to the dealership Monday morning. The mechanics could not find anything wrong with it. On Friday, July 11, the car broke down again. We decided to trade it in and get a brand new car. Well, that is when we found out (through 2 different dealerships - Mazda, Fairfax and Carmax, Dulles) that the vehicle has FRAME DAMAGE because it was in an accident. Now the vehicle is worth $6200.00 LESS than what I paid for it (Paid: 17,700. Now worth 11,500). I called the Sales Manager, David Perrin. He lacks the appropriate skills, in my opinion, to deal with customers. He was condescending and rude. When I explained that the vehicle had frame damage, he was snide and sarcastic about the specific terminology of the Honda CRV frame. If the Rosenthal Honda Fairfax cannot determine that a Certified Used vehicle has been in an accident, or if they deliberately misled their customers, they should rethink what should be considered Certified Used. We contacted the General Manager, Cary Schwab, the Assistant General Manager, Bridget Wang - but neither would return our calls/inquiries. We've contacted the Better Business Bureau (Although, upon doing research, Honda Fairfax dealership is familiar with complaints. There have been 15 in the last 36 months/6 in the last 12 months.) and ABC7 on Your Side, to request an investigation. More
