Maybe that's because you've heard the horror stories of salesmen who strong arm their hapless customers. Who cajole, threaten, cheat, and yes, lie to their customers. We've heard them too. But with so many people exchanging information about cars and dealers on the Internet, I thought perhaps things had changed--That I could go into a dealership and maybe even have a pleasant experience. But pigs don't fly out of rumps, and I guess good experiences at used car dealers don't happen either. At least it didn't for us that day in May, 2007. Yesterday my wife and I were shopping for a used car for our college-aged daughter at Criswell Automotive, a dealer in Germantown, MD. We were told by Corey Pardue, the sales manager that our chosen car came with a 30 day "bumper to bumper warranty. Great, we said. Can we see details in writing? What does that warranty cover exactly? (We learned from Consumer Reports that you should know these things.) Well, Corey said, you'll need to sign all these papers first, and then our "business manager" can give you those details. Right. Ok, we wanted to please our daughter so we tried something else. Well, Corey, can we add language to the contract that says we can take the car to our mechanic and return it within 48 hours if he finds problems. "SURE," Corey said, let's add that language (which he did). In the meantime, his repair shop was fixing a steering problem with the car. This was taking hours (we really love our kid), which gave us plenty of time to read all the paperwork. Guess what we learned? The contract stated that the only warranty language that was legal was the language on the car's sticker (in our case the vague, unspecific, 30-day or 1,000 mile warranty). That means that any language to added to the contract was meaningless. When I asked Corey about this he told us to leave! Gosh! So folks, it's true. xxxx exists, and we entered it when we went though the doors at Criswell Automotive in Germantown, MD. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere for a Honda, Chevy, Hummer, Lexus, or whatever else you may be in the market for. More
A refreshing experience. A refreshing experience.

I spent almost a month talking to dealerships and getting quotes in the DC area via email (with an occasional call). And after getting quotes from over 20 places(rosenthal, ourisman, landmark among others), these guys won out.

They are a reasonably new dealership and are looking to build a large base-hence they will give you a better deal. Just bought an 04 Civic EX for 16,1 out the door. this is after 10 other dealerships claimed that there was no way anyone would go under 16,4. I called these guys at 8:55pm(they close at 9), and Andy specifically stayed around to make sure my deal could happen that night. Talk about going above and beyond!

Like I said, I just bought my honda. so who knows, maybe the wheels will fall off tomorrow and ill be back on here posting a nasty message. but until then, take my advice, you'll be hard-pressed to get a better internet quote that the dealership WILL ACTUALLY HONOR than these guys. BUYER BEWARE! Many of the "new" vehicles at this dealership have significant body damage. I do not know if it is due to dealer's own negligence or something else. I almost bought a CR-V from this dealership have significant body damage. I do not know if it is due to dealer's own negligence or something else. I almost bought a CR-V from them. Thank goodness I noticed it had been hit in the front and that one of the fenders was pushed back and bent outwards before I took ownership. People there were nice at first, until I pointed out the damage. Then they claimed they could not see it and got loud and arrogant. I insisted that the CR-V was damaged. It was very obvious. So, one sales guy takes the CR-V I almost bought to the body shop and the guy in charge of the body shop first tells me it is definitely damaged. I tell them I will wait until next morning to decide what I want to do. Next morning, body shop manager and sales guys all claim that CR-Vs just "come from the factory that way". Right! Upon inspecting other cars on the lot and in the showroom, I found several others with body damage. Another CR-V on the showroom floor had obviously taken a dead-center, front-end hit. The front bumper was pushed upwards into the grill and the top of the grill was touching the hood. Again, dealer claims it is normal.

Remember. You have been warned. I got smart and took my money and my business elsewhere. More
