On September 20th, I was in my car with my daughter, 11 months old, and a friend driving to Disney for my daughters first vacation. Everything was going great till we reached I4 from 75. My car, an automatic, sounded like it was trying to switch gears and got stuck. The engine started revving and I couldn't go over 20 mph, and there was a smell coming from the engine. A light came on the dash I hadn't seen before, a steering wheel with something through it. I pulled over on I4 and turned everything off. When I turned the car back on, that light was gone and the regular check engine light came on. The engine was still revving and I couldn't go over 20 mph and the smell was still there. So I got off I4 at the very first exit and called Chryslers emergency services. Here's where my problems began. I was not allowed to pick which dealership my car went to. Courtesy Chrysler was the closest to my location. I asked several times if my car could be transported to Jerry Ulm Chrysler, as they are a sister location to the Naples Chrysler I've used since purchasing my vehicle. I was denied, both in the initial tow and once the car was at Courtesy. Now understand this did happen on a Friday around 2pm, but by the time a tow truck could get to us and get me and my car to Courtesy, it was close to 5:30pm. By the time I spoke to someone at at Courtesy, they said there hands were tied. They would not be able to look at my vehicle until Monday, and would not have anyone to fix it until later in the week, Thursday or Friday at the earliest. They gave me a phone number to call, they said it was the only number that could override a possible emergency tow to a different dealership. When I called, the place was closed already and would not reopen until Monday. They had zero rental cars as of Friday, and the entire time my car was there, a total of 11 days, they never tried to get me a rental. I was going to be in Orlando until Tuesday. I was hoping for at least a diagnostic by Monday or Tuesday, possibly a window of when I would need to come back up to pick up my car. In the mean time I made my own arrangements for transportation. My dealership in Naples was amazing during this time. They made many calls on my behalf trying to get my car transferred to either their sister dealership in Tampa or them in Naples. They had a difficult time getting on the phone with anyone at Courtesy, and when they did they were not able to come to any sort of agreement Courtesy was willing to participate in. Monday I heard nothing. Tuesday I called when we were on the road home to see if they had looked at the car yet. Here's where things get crazy. I was told it was a transmission problem but they didn't know how bad but most likely the whole thing would need replaced. I was told they were slammed and this could take weeks or possibly months. That they had another car in currently and had been waiting 72 days at that point. They encouraged me to get my car moved to my Naples dealership at my own cost, that Chrysler would not cover anything. So after contacting my Naples Chrysler dealership, and trying for a week to get the car brought down by Chrysler, we decided to eat the cost of a tow truck. $300 dollars later, our car arrived in Naples on Tuesday October 1st around 6pm so aster they had closed for the day. We went yesterday and received a rental immediately from the dealership. They told us they were going to wait till Thursday the 3rd, today, to have the car looked at as that was when their transmission specialist would be in. We received a call today at 3pm saying our car was fixed and ready to be picked up. Turns out all it needed was a transmission gear software update. That's all. Something that took our dealership less than a day to diagnose and fix. Courtesy Chrysler, I'm not mad, but I am deeply disappointed. Do better. More
