Went to have an engine replacement done due to a catalytic converter problem. Metal shavings in the exhaust. Even though the recall for that year Kia was for an engine rod bearing hole had been wrongly bored. But if it didn't have that problem. Where does the metal shavings come from? They agreed to let us have the catalytic converter replaced so our car could pass inspection. Even went so far as to price match another dealership because they overprice their part. 1800 dollars for a cat at courage...1500 dollars from another. Not to mention the second dealership went as far as saying they could get one for 800. Ummm...that wasn't mentioned at this dealership? No it was after all going to be their quote of 3800 for the cat, sensors (which didn't need to be done) and that wasn't including labor. So anyways....we did the work ourselves, even when promised by this dealership that it wouldn't affect the recall process. Oh and not to mention everyone that agreed to that got canned. Got rid of the check engine light ...so they come back with" Well if the check engine light isn't on then they won't touch it and the engine won't be replaced. Not to mention that when we got the light to go off we decided unfortunately to have them to do one of their free inspections for all NC Kias. We go up there. Asked for an inspection...they didn't ask for the registration right off as any other garage would. An hour later we find out we don't have any tail lights. They claim that would be a 200 dollar fix. Um ..excuse me for light bulbs? 16 dollar light bulbs at an AutoZone. Let's not forget that I live so close to this dealership that my engine can't even reach proper operating temperature and I did a walk around my car to make sure all the lights, horn, and everything was working beforehand. So they're telling me within a minute drive that my taillights went out? Sure. This dealership is full of xxxx mechanics that'll basically vandalize your car to make a buck ..several thousand if you're not lucky. Staff is rude and dismissive, and don't really like to be called out on their xx. I was kicked out when I was showing my disdain for the way I've been treated over my visits. I repeat...do not deal with this dealership...xxxx not only with maintenance. I wouldn't even buy a car from them. More
The service manager here has made me lose faith in KIA warranty and products. Brought a 2020 kia optima sx turbo in with a miss now have to tow it away with a bad engine. Warranty work was denied due to warranty and products. Brought a 2020 kia optima sx turbo in with a miss now have to tow it away with a bad engine. Warranty work was denied due to an unbelievable explanation from the hot headed service manager. I should've read all these negative reviews/complaints on here or even Google and the BBC before stopping in Courage kias service department More
Do Not Have Service Done Here! !! Dangerous!!! Applied Anti-Seize To Brakes!!! My wife and I purchased a brand new Kia Sorento from Courage Kia in November. The purchasing experienc !! Dangerous!!! Applied Anti-Seize To Brakes!!! My wife and I purchased a brand new Kia Sorento from Courage Kia in November. The purchasing experience was great with Michael Guzman and the sales team. However, the service department leaves a lot to be desired. I purchased a new vehicle to not have to deal with maintenance issues or complaints, that should be taken care of by the dealer. My wife complained about a consistent brake squeal in the December. She scheduled an appointment to take it in on Friday, 12/16/2022. The service advisor told her everything was fine and that all Kia's brakes squeal. I found this unacceptable and told them they needed to fix the problem as we didn't pay for a new car to have the brakes squeal. They couldn't do anything that evening as all of the technicians were gone, and setup an appointment for Wednesday 12/21/2022. My wife pulls up and meets Karen who says to her it says your brakes squeak, but they didn't do it when you pulled in so when are they doing it?. She proceeded to have an attitude according to my wife. Karen and someone else drove the car a little bit and said they couldn't get the brakes to squeal and they couldn't do anything, for my wife. After the service advisor Wednesday said they would be able to apply disc brake quiet or something comparable to the back of the pads on 12/16/2022 the whole reason for the second appointment. I called the Service manager Eric Derby, who is very hard to reach as no one in service wants you to talk to their boss and the phone system dial by name doesn't work. I finally got ahold of Eric and spoke with him and he said he would take care of it and we setup an appointment for 1/6/2023. I sent a confirmation email that was apparently never received etc... My wife showed up for the appointment on 1/6/2023 and was greeted by Karen telling her they wouldn't be able to do anything again. She told Karen I am here to see Eric and she said Eric is sick an has gone home. Luckily Eric was still there and according to my wife told them "what to do and to put the paperwork on his desk." She also said another guy said to take pictures I want to see that. Well she left the Kia dealership and called me when she was about halfway home saying the brakes weren't squeaking but they were making a lot of noise and it was juddering going down hill. I told her to take the vehicle home and I would look when I got home. I didn't get to check the vehicle until Saturday morning. When I checked the vehicle the rotor friction surface had been sprayed with a liberal coating of Anti-Seize. A dealership put my family at risk applying Anti-Seize (lubricant) to the friction side of the brakes. I called and was told they wouldn't be able to do anything until Monday. I spoke with Eric Derby and asked what would have been sprayed on my brakes on the friction side. He said they had a spray that was "black" that would be applied to the pad made by B&G product. I told him well someone sprayed Anti-Seize onto the friction surface and asked if he had received my email, which I guess he hadn't once again. He was extremely concerned that this would have been applied to the friction surface of my brakes and offered to replace the pads or send me a set of pads. He also confirmed via phone call that afternoon, when confirming the shipping address for the pads, that his technician did spray anti-seize on my brake rotors. This was one of his better technicians that did this also, which really makes me wonder about the intentions behind applying a lubricant to the brakes. I am posting this to warn others, that they employee technicians that are either not trained enough to know better or that will do something dangerous to put your families life at risk. They certainly put my wife's life at risk by intentionally applying none approved substances to the friction surface of the brakes. More

Staff were very friendly. However, I scheduled service for an safety recall (2) affecting the HECU/ ABS system. It was time for an oil change and inspection so I requested those and I requested a tire rep for an safety recall (2) affecting the HECU/ ABS system. It was time for an oil change and inspection so I requested those and I requested a tire repair. Their inspection revealed that the rear brake pads needed replacement so I agreed to that. My bill came to $560. I paid it and got in my car only to find that the ABS, traction control and tire pressure lights are still illuminated on the dash. I was at lunch and could not address it right then but I called and they said I could bring it back in to see what the problem is. I brought it back today and they promptly took it back to the service bay. I waited 20 mins and then I was informed that they do not know what the problem but they guarantee me it is not under warranty and wanted $140 just to diagnose why the lights are still on. I took it to Autozone and they plugged it in and came back with 6 trouble codes all having to do with the HECU and rear speed wheel sensors signal. They printed it off, I went home and spent 20 minutes doing an internet search to find KIA's internal tech docs addressing the codes I am getting. On top of all of this, my car ran smoothly when I took it in there but now it runs rough at an idle and it makes slight whining noise that seems to come from the rear of the vehicle as I am driving down the road. I was very pleased to see how friendly and attentive the staff seem to be but very disappointed that they did $560 worth of work on the very things I still have trouble codes for and will not even give me their assessment of the ongoing issue without another $140 just to say what the problem is and how much more they would charge to fix it. Do they wonder why people have such a low opinion of dealership service departments? Staff = Wonderful but Service Policies = Horrible. More

Since we were stuck here I had called other dealerships for the part in which the KIA should have done to source the part. I found multiple other KIA dealers with the part and they were all cheaper than this dealership was going to charger me for it. On top of this I found that the fuse inside the Safety Plug could be order and was only a $25 fuse (priced at another dealer) and not the entire safety plug they told us we need to replaced. They is a bulletin from KIA stating this for the vehicle. FROM KIA itself!!!! I will never trust this place with any vehicle. We brought our vehicle here for this expert KIA service and got shade tree mechanic, part changer service. More
Superb Service! I recently bought a Kia Sorento out of state before moving to NC. I had a few problems with it and issues getting an honest answer from other Kia locations. Once I moved to NC my neighbor referred me to Kia of Gastonia. Once I got there I was greeted by Morris the service manager. Morris was legitimately concerned about the issues I had been having and assured me he would personally ensure my vehicle was taken care of. Turns out I had an electrical short from a wire that was worn down and it took them some effort to find it. After my vehicle was serviced by Morris and his team, I have had no problems. Those guys are highly professional and they truly care. As long as I have this vehicle I will continue taking it to Kia of Gastonia because I know it will be done right and I won't get the run around like I seemed to get at other dealerships where I didn't actually purchase the vehicle. If you live in the area I urge you to go see Morris and his team because they are first class! More
