Misrepresenting the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty I was in the process of buying a 2012 F150 FX4 - absolutely beautiful truck, had everything that I wanted, low miles for a 6 year old truck, lifetime I was in the process of buying a 2012 F150 FX4 - absolutely beautiful truck, had everything that I wanted, low miles for a 6 year old truck, lifetime powertrain warranty, the list goes on. the salesperson and I talked in depth about the powertrain warranty on a couple of occasions - he said as long as I keep the service records the warranty will stay in tact. Cool, can't beat that. I signed the warranty certificate and proceeded to buy the truck Then I go into the finance managers (Ade) office, he sits me down and tries to sell me a $2870 extended warranty agreement, after he tried on multiple occasions (a little pushy) to get me to purchase the warranty I told him that I was content with the powertrain warranty that was provided. He then told me that my truck was not eligible for the warranty, I basically told him that's not what I was told and I had already signed the warranty agreement. He left, talked to the sales manager and came back to tell me that they only cover from 2013 and up. Of course, I was extremely upset at this point and told them that I was no longer interested in the truck. The salesman called me later and apologized for misrepresenting the truck, it was never his intention. I do believe him, I just told him that it was an honest mistake, but the dealership should right the wrong. I later sent a message via Facebook about the situation, I got an immediate reply from Cole Barker with an apology and a statement that they would get the situation took care of and call me by 10 AM the next morning. For the record Cole never called. Byron Snyder finally called at 12:30 just to tell me that they couldn't do anything about it. I told them that Ford Protect offered a 2 year 36,000 mile powertrain warranty for $935, maybe he could look to see what they had in the truck to see if they could discount the truck so that I could pay for the warranty myself. Byron said he would check on it and call me back. He called back about 5 minutes later to tell me that the Ford Protect warranty wasn't worth the paper it was written on and that they could sell me the extended warranty at their cost ($1400). I basically told them that it wasn't right for me to have to pay an extra $1400 for their mistake. I feel that they should have paid for the warranty at that point, or at least discounted the truck so that I could purchase my own warranty. Everyone wanted to blame the salesperson, in reality, the salesperson is an employee of that company and is a direct extension of the Cleveland Ford name - ultimately the training falls on the dealership, the management team just wanted to place blame and not try to right the wrong. All I heard was that customer service was their number one priority, don't believe for a minute that customer service is their number one priority, their priority is all about making money and not doing the right thing even if it results in losing a little money. Let's face it, the doc fee is all profit, $499.50 and another $98 for a title fee, lose the doc fee and give back another $350 and you cover the warranty, would have been a small price to pay. More
