I called Classic Mazda service and they said I had to bring it in for servicing. I said surely there must be something I can try first--such as a button someplace--before dedicating an entire afternoon to servicing. They said no, I must bring it in. Apparently, the volume button doubles as a screen on-off switch, but for some reason the manual doesn't say this. An afternoon wasted because Classic Mazda management apparently puts no effort into considering their customers' time. More
