Over the years I have purchased many parts and even trucks from Classic Chevy and have had positive experiences BUT our most recent interaction was not !  I have worked as a professional mechanic for t trucks from Classic Chevy and have had positive experiences BUT our most recent interaction was not !  I have worked as a professional mechanic for the past 40+ years and I know what it takes to repair vehicles so  what happened recently to us at Classic Chevy is a cause for concern ! My daughter has a Chevy Malibu with a intermittent problem where the  power steering  stops working  ( it was recalled once for the same problem a few years ago) so I took a look at it and figured it needed another steering shaft torque sensor since it was doing the exact thing as last time . I was busy so since my daughter lives close to Classic Chevy , I told her to take it over there to have it fixed and I also told her to tell the service manager that it needs a new steering shaft torque sensor. They took the car in to diagnose it themselves (which any good mechanic should) and  they told my daughter that it could be either the steering shaft torque sensor or the  Power Steering Assist Motor itself but they didn't know for sure.  So the gave her a price of $1000.  to replace the steering shaft torque sensor or $1600. to replace both the steering shaft torque sensor and  the Power Steering Assist Motor . She called me and told me the prices for the repairs and it told her I would make time to fix it myself. So I told her to decline having them do the work. THE FOLLOWING IS WHAT I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH ; They said it took 2 hours to diagnose the problem with the steering (even though they said they determine which one of the two parts were bad)  so they charged her $220. For THAT diagnosis ! Well today I went and bought a OEM GM steering shaft torque sensor for $158. and installed it in 45 mins and the car is working like it should.  In closing I am writing this to say that It is a shame that a place like Classic Chevy thinks that they have to take advantage of people just because most people do know what it involves to fix vehicles AND I will no longer be buying anything from Classic Chevy and definitely not referring people to do business  there ! More
