Beware -- It's not the old Carbone dealership In case you didn't know, Lithia motors who owns more than 150 dealerships in 16 states and their business plan apparently is make more money any way In case you didn't know, Lithia motors who owns more than 150 dealerships in 16 states and their business plan apparently is make more money any way they can, has bought Carbone out. I noticed the last 3 times I have been there that there were a lot of new faces in the service area which suggests a high turnover rate. We have bought cars from and had them serviced at Carbones for many years and always had excellent service until the past 2-3 times. Their new policy is a "diagnosis" fee of $99 that will be refunded if you have the work done there. The first time I was there this year, the diagnosis did not even address the humming/whirring noise I took it in for, but they did supposedly find an unrelated problem, bad sway bar bushings -- Bad sway bar bushings make a banging or thump not a humming/whirring noise, but they did replace them for my $99.. A job I could have done 3 times over in the 4 hours I waited for the car, .at a cost of $10 -15 for the parts. The second (and last) time I was planning a trip and agreed to the $99 diagnosis fee because the transmission jerked and banged as it shifted -- a check engine light was on and I still had the humming/whirring noise. After 2 hours .with my car sitting in a bay and nobody looking at it, I inquired when it would be done so finally they started on it. An hour later, the service writer came and said there was nothing wrong with the transmission but I needed new brakes (front brakes had been replaced a few months ago) and struts and would I like to have them done, I said no and he said $99 please. I said what about the check engine light and noise?? He told me I didn't say anything about that and I said I certainly did and it was on my list. He said that will take another hour and I could wait or bring it back, I waited and after about an hour and a half he came back and said the check engine light was a bad gas tank cap and would be a $20 part ($15 at auto Zone). so I said put it on. He said nothing about the noise. He told the mechanic to put cap on and handed me my bill for $241.,00 I said What is this for?? $99 for checking the transmission, $99 for check engine light diagnosis and $35 for the $20 gas cap plus tax. (apparently never did road test for noise). Needless to say I started getting pretty hot and told them to put the old cap back on, he said they'ed already installed it and couldn't change it. I said wasn't paying $99 for the check engine light and noise along with the transmission check I had asked for in the beginning. He again said I hadn't asked for it and I pulled out the note I had made before I went in that morning to be sure I mentioned the 3 problems. He sort of stuttered when he saw that and I rather loudly demanded that he get the manager in here right now. He apparently didn't want to see the manager again because the manager was called for the 2 previous customers also, so he knocked off the second $99 diagnosis fee so my bill was $141. Well, I still have the whirring/humming noise, the transmission banging as it shifts and a $141 gas cap!! What they don't know is that and while waiting for them to service my car, in addition to checking out their new cars, I was out at their Nissan, and Hyundai dealerships next door also and that my wife and I have been saving her small pension for the past 11 years to buy a new car for mostly cash this year. We will buy that new car within the next couple months and I guarantee it will not be at any Carbones or any other Lithia dealership, as I'm sure the policy is the same company wide. They obviously don't have service managers anymore that will road test your vehicle with you if necessary and decide whether you may have a problem then suggest further diagnosis/repair,. now all they have is service salesmen that are required to sell, sell, sell, regardless if you need it or not. Our many years as Carbone customers is over, we will buy elsewhere and I would suggest you check out other , preferably locally owned dealers for your new or new to you car. Ahh, I feel better now. Terrible service, promises the world and never delivers. Recently a friend of mine purchased a truck from Carbone cdjr, upon purchase he was promised new tires and other small details taken care of. Upon pic Recently a friend of mine purchased a truck from Carbone cdjr, upon purchase he was promised new tires and other small details taken care of. Upon pick up he noticed tires had not been changed, head light out and a few cosmetic issues. By NY inspection laws this vehicle should not have even passed NYSI for safety. Every manger has a different story, claiming they never promised this or that. I highly suggest looking else where for a vehicle! Their sales people are only there for commission and nothing more. Go elsewhere Loved the actual car BUT salesperson made it seem like because Carbone sells their vehicles at such "low prices" that they can't do anything else bu Loved the actual car BUT salesperson made it seem like because Carbone sells their vehicles at such "low prices" that they can't do anything else but sell it. Like I knew something was off the first day I drove it home more than the mile test drive and then found out that the motor had been replaced a year ago prior to me buying this car, also the car need a light and they said oh that's has to be ordered you'll have to come back, well it's been two weeks and haven't heard a thing! Also the car had open recalls on it so emidately had to bring to another dealership for them, point being just a bunch of extra bs that I don't think one should have to go through when buying a 15 thousand dollar car More
Horrid Customer Service Bought a Jeep Cherokee from here. Everyone during the purchase was wonderful. Went to sign all the paperwork for the car, paid the deposit and reg fee Bought a Jeep Cherokee from here. Everyone during the purchase was wonderful. Went to sign all the paperwork for the car, paid the deposit and reg fees etc, guy said ok I'll be back with your keys. Came back to tell me they 'misplaced' my license plate and they'd get me a rental. Ok, fine. Fast forward 2 months later. My exhaust literally detached from the engine mount. Called up to say car was still under warranty and I had to be to work soon. Shelby was extremely helpful, said they would glad get someone to get me. Awesome. Transferred me to dispatch who very rudely told me there was nothing he could do and I'd have to drive it to Yorkville from Rome or have it towed at my expense and that they don't deliver or pick up cars (which I know they do since it was offered to me when I purchased the car) Got there and the salesman who sold me the car didn't even care my car sounded like it was about to explode. Another salesman took me back to service where I was hassled for a while before they reluctantly said it was still under the 90 day warranty and they'd fix it. I am appalled by my treatment after my purchase. Don't let them fool you. They will be sweet as punch to sell you the car but anything afterwards, you may as well be a brother thrice removed and shunted. We shall see how everything else goes, but it's in for repair at the moment and as it's the only car I have available to me we shall see how I get it back to me. Will update after it's all said and done. More
DO NOT COME HERE FOR A USED CAR. Here's my recent experience: I purchased a used car over a month ago and Carbone promised me delivery of the car later that week. I never received the Here's my recent experience: I purchased a used car over a month ago and Carbone promised me delivery of the car later that week. I never received the car or even a phone call from Carbone that week. The following week I call them and they say the car still ''needs repairs'. Then no contact from them until I call them again the following week- they tell me they just need to find a driver and the car will be delivered the next day. Never happened. I call again and management tells me the car needed further repairs I was never told about before. After a MONTH of this and me having no car, I canceled the sale and asked for my deposit back. Carbone STILL has not given me my deposit back, a week after I canceled the sale, and every time I call it's a new excuse. I've had to file a police report in order to get my deposit back on a car I never received from Carbone. Worst car buying experience of my life and I would give zero stars if I could. I have all the receipts and records of my experience. More
