We started having a problem with the car not starting due to, what seemed like, a dead battery. After we jumped it it would run fine for up to a couple of months without any other issues. In April of 2014 there were 3 times that this problem occurred before the 15th of the month. I contacted the service department and was able to bring the car right in and drop it off. I didn't need it back right away and I wanted to make sure it was not rushed. I got a call from Tina the next day and she indicated that the technician had determined that the battery had a dead cell in it. She actually had the tech standing right there and I was able to speak with him. (sorry, I don't remember his name) I disagreed with his diagnosis because of the extreme length of time between incidents. He was very professional in his explanation and did not talk to me like I was "just another mistrusting customer". I told Tina to go ahead and install the new battery and that I would be there to pick up the car in a couple of hours. When I arrived, I was checked out by David, again professional. It was then that I found out the amount was less than I had been told it was going to be by Tina. That had never happened before at any other dealership. I thanked them for their time and the smaller than expected bill and went outside to give my wife the keys and leave. That's when I discovered that they had washed the car...........it had rained all morning and they were calling for more......soon.........they washed it anyway. I left the dealership happy and satisfied that I had made the right choice in buying my car from Checkered Flag. More

When I shopped parts, I would generally go with Checkered Flag. They were often cheaper and the online lookup parts illustrations are great for my needs. I decided to take my Accord coupe in for a state inspection and to have an intermittent SRS light looked at. I spoke with Jim Sauceda, who let me know up front about the cost for looking at an intermittent problem and any possible outcomes. I really appreciated this because as I said, I do my own service and hate surprises. The inspection and diagnosis came back pretty much like Jim and I thought it would. Terry Ruffin (my assigned advisor) got the parts (seat belt buckles bad, both seats) on order and would call when they came in to set up an appointment. Since they knew I was staying, they had the car done in a few hours which is very considerate. The followup appointment was scheduled and I also had them do a 4 wheel alignment. This was a drop off appointment. This went very well and Terry (re)confirmed the codes in the computer for the latches being bad; very thorough. One of the recommended services (from the initial inspection) was to change out the power steering fluid which I decided to do myself. Your parts guys are great and told me how much I'd need to do the job. While I was there, I spoke with Carl Dyson in sales to see if they had any 6 speed V6 Accord Coupes on the lot. Carl said that one had just come in and went all the way in the back to "dig it out" of inventory (it's not a popular mpodel choice!). He took the time to show me everything on the new Accords and we test drove it. Carl was very helpful and WASN'T pushy! When I went to pick up my vehicle later that day, imagine my surprise when I saw that not only was the work done, but they had taken the time to wash my car and thoroughly clean the interior! Not just halfway either, it was a very nice job! Needles to say, I won't be taking my business to Hall Honda in the future; not because they do a bad job or anything, but because your folks (service, parts, and sales) all do such a great job. Keep up the good work! It's rare these days! -Joe Mercer More

I recently moved to Virginia; I had a great experience with my last Honda dealership. I checked the reviews on Checkered Flag before going in; they were mixed, but I hoped for the best. I was disappointed with my last Honda dealership. I checked the reviews on Checkered Flag before going in; they were mixed, but I hoped for the best. I was disappointed; I left the dealership flabbergasted by the whole experience. Since I just moved to Virginia, I needed a state inspection; I also mentioned that my check engine light was on, probably due to the gas cap – I just wanted them to check on it and reset the indicator light. My last dealership just did $2K+ of scheduled maintenance on my car the month before, so I knew everything on the car was up-to-date. I waited for 2 hours before I heard anything about my car (I ended up waiting almost 3.5 hours total!) When they came to me, they proposed $2,500 worth of repairs. I was shocked! For my inspection, they pointed to a very, very small tear in my left windshield wiper and said it needed to be replaced to pass inspection – the cost: $26 for a left windshield wiper! I felt taken hostage. They also charged me $120 for checking on my indicator light and telling me what I already suspected – it was likely due to a loose gas cap. The total bill: $169. All for waiting 3.5 hours, getting 1 wiper blade replaced (which took almost an hour after I approved the repair!), and getting a sales pitch for $2500 more worth of repairs (some of which had just been done by another Honda dealership a month or so before!) It's a "soft" sales pitch where they "walk you through" areas where your car "failed" a "diagnostic" test. If you want to wait a long time, be sold repairs you don't need, and pay quadruple for basic parts like windshield wipers, then this is your place. As someone who is new to the Hampton Roads area – and who is about to purchase a new Honda – I will not be doing any more business with Checkered Flag Honda. I will gladly drive a little further for honest, reputable service. My final bill: $169. I told the representative how thoroughly disappointed I felt about my experience – to his credit, he reduced the price to $99 (and an admission to the gross overcharge of the original price, in my opinion). I never have written an online review before, and I am not one to complain or be demanding. I just have never have been so disappointed by a business like I was today. Frankly, the whole experience took me completely off guard. I've had my car serviced at other Honda dealerships, and I have had great service and great experiences. I am a loyal Honda owner; and plan to keep buying Hondas based on my experience. I just plan to purchase my next Honda – and have it serviced – at another dealership. It cost me $99 to learn not to stop by for a state inspection or have my car serviced here; hopefully this review can save you the time and money. More
I have been dealing with Checker Flag Honda since 2008. My sales associate was very good. He did not hassle and was very helpful and patient. But, services is where I have my issues. Customer services is h My sales associate was very good. He did not hassle and was very helpful and patient. But, services is where I have my issues. Customer services is horrible. When I walk in on numerous occasions they don't speak, and when you walk to the desk they're not quick to help you or at least tell you that an representative will be with you. They do not even acknowledge you and you can be standing while they take calls or on the computer or talking. And, when they finally get to you they recommend the highest price products. I have both two cars from Checker Flag Honda, but this will probably be the last time I deal with them mainly because of customer services. I can't see where it's a benefit to being a value Honda owner and not getting any special deals or getting your car service at Checker Flag Honda on Virginia Beach Blvd. For example, Priority Honda gives lifetime free oil changes as a promotion. I will do my research the next time I purchase a new car. More

In all of my car pertaining to the choice and acquisition of my Honda Accord. He attended to all details flawlessly and with noteworthy efficiency. In all of my car buying experience [ I am over sixty ], I can truly say this transaction stands alone in a category of excellence! He is a superior salesman; any dealership would be fortunate to have him in their employ, and it goes without saying that I will highly recommend Scott Weseleskey to any friends who may be in the market. Many thanks, Scott from Veronica Kochey. More

I personaly showed sevice writer the seat bottom was makeing noise when pressed down as when one is getting up from seat bottom. I said may be loose bolt or clip fastneer holding the seat to the frame of the seat. There tech "noise is where lumbard making contact with inner set frame when not being used. also noticed cust has seat cover's on seat's. this can cause problem's if air bags deploy during accident". We removed seat cover's. They could have replaced the whole seat or the seat bottom; but did not make any futher try to fix. I contacted sale person and ask for follow up. Never received any results. I will not buy or use this dealer again. More
